Default I need some help

Please forgive me for my ignorance beforehand! A co-worker's boyfriend has a 1991 Z with a full race motor, twin turbos, nitrous, aluminum wheels, body kit, etc.

I am a pickup guy, so I know very little about imports - other than what this guy told me. Basically, he said its dyno'd around 600 rwhp and he's gotten it up to 185 mph (illegally of course). He said he put about $50,000 into it, but wants to get rid of it.

Can you guys suggest any places - or enthusiast forums - where someone would be interested in an older, drag-type Z? He's selling it, but doesn't have the time to do it, so I offered to lend my assistance. Thanks!

Patrick

Welcome. I recommend that you stay out of the sale. Nothing is more frustrating than asking the seller (who is not the owner) questions which he cannot answer.

+1 Tell him to join and post his car up. I'm sure there's people here interested in a Z32.

He knows about the car, just as a business investor, is home probably 4 days a month! I'll keep looking around for what I can find on here. Thanks for your guys' help!

Definately...it is very cool that you are offering to help him, but it is very frustrating when the seller can't answer any questions about the car.

You could post it up but put his phone number and when people call him and want to see the car he will let them know that he isn't available but can have you show it...he can answer the questions over the phone and set the expectation that the person who is going to show the car is just a friend and doesn't know what is done to the car.

I am heading over to his place this weekend to take some pictures. He's really not in it to make a profit, he just wants it gone. I think he's looking for something between $30k-$40k, but I'll have to confirm.

My goal this weekend is to get some good pictures, find out more details on the twin turbos, motor, tranny, etc. Like I said, I'm a gearhead by nature, and I'd want to know those details.

I went for a ride in it once, and I've never felt ANYTHING that fast - not a modded diesel truck, Corvette, or modded GT Mustangs. The thing is FAST.

Thanks for the website recommendations! I saw a similar one for sale on ebay, the guy wanted $22,000. But, he didn't have upgraded turbos, nitrous, 13" brembos all the way around, and it wasn't a Stage 10.

Good luck getting more than $30k for it. As you'll find out on the internet forums, modifications don't necessarly add a lot of money to the overall deal.

I can understand that - but it all depends on the type of modifications. We aren't talking an intake and spoiler here. This thing has a fully built race motor, HKS turbos, larger intercoolers, honed penelums, full Stillen suspension upgrades, Brembo 13" rotors and racing pads, etc. It is not street legal, and will not pass emissions in CA. One sold on ebay for $19,000 and all it had was a body kit, simple bolt-ons, and some head work.

I spent half the day with the owner today, and here are the specifications and modifications:

1991 Nissan 300 ZX Twin Turbo 600 horsepower
71,000 miles on the car
10,000 miles on Jim Wolf race-built motor (El Cajon, CA)
Stage 17 (18 is the highest, only thing missing is an upgraded camshaft)
