There is a service bullitin for early gas pump shut-off. If you are concerned, have the service completed. Of course you will pay for it.
Or just live with the fact that the fuel gage is inaccurate.

I always try to use Chevron gas, the few times that I had to use Arco I had problems getting gas in the car. One time I couldnt get the pump to work at all; tried two more pumps with the same problem. Drove to the 76 about a mile up the road and filled the tank with no problems. Maybe there is different valve design at the pumps? I dont know. I never have problems at Chevron though.

curious to why some people don't go below a 1/4 of a tank, and always fill up then...

I have a '03, when I get low it will only fill to half a tank. Also one time I was stuck on the PA turnpike and drove forever with gas light on. Didn't even register on the digital DTE. I didn't mean to. Just happened. somehow I made it to a gas station in some back woods area. Again, only filled to half a tank.
When running to empty keep in mind that fuel pumps are lubricated by the gas they sit in when your tank is not empty. Not that running your car empty will cause the fuel pump to expire, but it may cause excessive wear and tear in hotter weather when it is dry out.
Also for cold weather when the air is wet and dense it is recomended to stay at least above 1/4 tank to keep any condensation out of the tank.
The most I've ever filled in my 03 is 15.2 gallons or so, the least my DTE has ever gotten is in the 20's, not that I don't believe that their is 3-4 more gallons in their, I just don't want to run that risk of running out. How silly does a guy with a Z look on the side of the road. Is good to know now just in case.
