Default Joining the "totalled my Z" club....

Hey guys... just got of the hospital, no injuries...just bumps n bruises. I totalled my 06' ppw 350z weds morning. Sucks ***... Just cruising up I45N on my way to the office (doing about 60mph)...drove through a rather wide but shallow puddle of water on the freeway and bam... spun the car, then when it caught itself ran front end first into the concrete guard rail separating the HOV lane from the rest of the freeway. I blacked out... but a sheriff was behind me and saw the whole thing! Basically said i slammed into it head on, then the force pushed the car up on top of the barrier... slid on it for a bit then fell back into the lane on the right side. I JUST looked at the car today... everyone at the storage lot said its totalled, but I'm waiting for the adjuster to look at it. Front is smashed, wheels pushed all the way back.. doors dont close right because the car looks twisted... and the NUMBER 1 thing for me to cry about??... my brand new WORK Meister S1 wheels are FCUKED!!... not even round anymore! But I'm alive, blah blah blah...

My friends are telling me all these 'other' cars to get now... but seriously I want another Z... I still love the car. Boo hoo... right? Anyways I only had 12k miles on it... it was super clean... and it dynoed really well for stock. Which makes it all the more upsetting that it happened to me. Anyways, it was fun while it lasted (6 mths!) So if anything... BE CAREFUL in the RAIN!

See ya!

-Tom

dunt dunt dunt... another one bites the dust... another ones gone and another ones gone... another one bites the dust... YEAH!!!

Guess what? You have my respect. Not because you can't drive and are helping increase insurance for everyone else.... but because you aren't blaming the car, the cop, and it doesn't appear that you're lying about what happened. Sorry for your loss. At least you have your life "blah blah blah".... may you get an '07 Z asap.... only if you promise to be nicer to this one

Try to salvage anything you can off of it before they total it out and take it away. I could use a few things

I'd hate to say it, but I'm curious how those wheels look after the accident.

Did the centers crack?

+1 on the tires, at 6 months they should've had some tread.

60mph with wider than stock tires.....that must've been one hellova puddle. i consistently drive 75ish in heavy rain stock re040's and have few problems.

glad to hear you're okay! my friend did the same thing in his z. just remember cars can be replaced but you can't.

I'm afraid of this happening to me though too. this is my first rwd car so i will not be prepared when the back end swings out on me. next time it rains i'm heading to a parking lot for some "practice"

oh and what part of houston are you from?

That sucks. At least you weren't killed.

Pics?

Will you get an '07 Enthusiast model?

Base model = No LSD, TCS, VDC.

Major bummer, dude... sorry to hear what happened. I'm sure you'll sell any parts you can salvage from it, though. The 07s do look nice.

Same here. I've driven mine in some nasty downpours without any problems. People just need to be a little more careful, I guess. The only time traction was an issue for me was when we had a "suprise" snow storm. Stock tires sucked ***. Now, I'm having no problems with my Blizzaks.

I have a base model.....no lsd no traction control no vdc...granted there are no snow storms in NC but plenty of rain.....54,000 miles....not a dent. It's all about paying attention, not being an idiot, and not having some other idiot run into you (the last being a chance of bad luck).

No one ran into this guy.

hehe i've seen 135mph on the stock potenzas in a nice afternoon shower on a very familiar intersate.... I wouldn't recommend your average joe try it though.. I've hydroplaned across deep standing puddles only doing 60mph as well...

I'm curious what kind of rubber he had on there too... directional tires? mounted the right direction??

Maybe I was not clear on my post... I was NOT speeding or driving like an "IDIOT"... Again, 60mph on the freeway...it was a LIGHT rain, but the puddle was about a lane wide and TRUST me the hydroplaning surprised me as well. I am 32 years old and just on my way to the office CRUISING. Not changing lanes, racing etc. **** happens, this event makes that point VERY clear to me now. I am extremely careful w/ my car and my surroundings. A few words...CONTROL IS AN ILLUSION. Noone has it, you just think you do.

That being said... here is a pic of one of the WORK wheels... Not sure how it got to that shape... the other front is the same w/ the rears having the lips folded in. They are all worthless if anyone was wondering...
