Do the sticks in all the Z's do this ? Even when the car is in neutral or with the clutch not engaged it vibrates.

lol dont worry man, they definitely did that on purpose. Supposedly its to give the muscle car appeal. I know Mazda Rx8's shifters vibrate like ours, i test drove one. I guess they forgot the car only has like 240 hp

hmmm.. my 03 is kinda notchy on the 1-2 and the 2-3 sometimes. like everyone else its worse when cold. i have 6 quarts of redline mt90 i am going to try. if that doesnt help i will just buy an 06 or possibly 07 tranny out of a wrecked car this summer and toss it in.
i also have an s14 with an rb25det and its tranny is ten times smoother. (same trans internally as Z32s btw) it does, however, feel like a slightly longer/sloppy throw. driving them back to back makes it obvious- the z33 tranny is not the best.

Mine is notchy on the 1-2 shift when it's cold out, but only for the first couple minutes; just shift slowly until it warms up. Otheriwse, it's smooth as butter. I run Royal Purple in my tranny and it made it noticably smoother, as did the addition of the Stillen engine torque dampener.

Drive a old VW bug and you will know what a slushbox manual is. Also try a ford t4 tranny its a four speed with a 5th gear added in, talk about rowing through gears. First gen supra trans were bad like that too, i had an 82 once for about a year. Ford t5 non world class was a slushbox. Basically you cant tell when you put it in gear you just stick where the gear would be and hope its in there when you let the clutch out.

When I say that my -Z- tranny is notchy, it is NOT that each gear has a definate and easily locatable position.......It is that I need to click it (no my350Z.com pun intended) out of one gear, and then click it into the next.
I have noticed on different -Z-'s that the force to move it out of one gear and into another differs dramatically.

So my car is currently at the Nissan Dealer .. the tranny is getting a close look. As I posted before in another thread, my gear box gets completely locked in the mornings. I live in so-cal and blamed it on the recent COLD weather ... but its just really not that cold for this to be happening. It will absolutely not go into to any gear even after the car has completely warmed up for 5 .. 10 even 15 minutes! The gears can be ran through just fine when the car is off mind you. Once I struggle with it for like 20 minutes of starting and re starting my car its soooo notchy into the first couple gears but after getting it up to speed like 2 miles down the rd it becomes normal again. A half an hour later it drives perfect with no notch or problems. I'm so confused as this problem just started to randomly happen the day of my test pipe install like a month ago. ERRRRR Does it make sense that one minute its broken FTW and the next hour it can drive just fine ??? It cannot be a mechanic problem considering its fine once it gets going, right? It has to do with the tranny oil then .. wrong viscosity ??? Something is not lined up correctly ??

Only the 1-2 upshift when it's cold. If I don't let it warm up for 10+ minutes, it won't even go into 2nd. So... if I don't have 10 minutes, I ignore 1st and start off in 2nd. It warms up quickly while driving, much more so than idling. Absolutely ZERO notchiness in the summer months.
