Default how exactly does removing the AC free up power?

I always hear people taking out their air conditioners because they claim it sucks power away.

Does it take power if it is not on? I never turn the AC on no matter how hot it is. I can totally feel the acceleration power being leeched away by the AC.

Also, does anyone know how to successfully chrome the interior of the car?
I want to add some chrome high lights to places such as the radio turn *****, the center console piece and the doors, but don't want it to look all ghetto. What type of finish should I use to make it look nice and classy?

The AC saps power when the compressor is on. I haven't heard of it sapping power while both the compressor and blower are off.

Why do you want to chrome the interior? Trying to turn your Z into a 4th grade art project?

I would say that if you rigged it correctly, you could re route your AC spray and use it as an intercooler/cold air intake and actually see some real power gains.
The more A/C units you hooked up in series the more power you would get exponentially, because cold air contains, more O2/cc.
Try it bruce and see what you can do.
as far as that chromed out look you want, how about just get some tin foil and wrap all your dials with it. That way you have 2 options, you can have a high polish shine if you put the glossy side out, or you can go with a more subtle satin finish if you put the matte side out. Let your imagination be your guide, and post pics!

Take the pieces you want chromed and spray paint them, that will look good on a front wheel drive Z with a Camry steering wheel when you are done with it. Good luck with all the work you want to do.

Here is some stuff he is planning on doing, we have to meet this genius to pick his brain.

1) Saves weight.
2) Even when off, there is some small about of loss through the drive belt and pulley.

DaveZ said it.... other than that... nothing. Infact, the HP lost by the AC is within the error range of a normal dyno... on the dyno we even tried it with the AC on and AC off... didnt see a difference in the numbers.... lol
