Default Different Oil Burning Question

Yes, I have an '06 and it is burning oil, but my question is - is running with low oil bad? By low oil, I mean with the oil level showing up at the lower quarter of the dipstick.

^ the low section of the dipstick indicates that its time to add one quart.

Will operating at that oil level damage the engine?

It can be potentially bad for the engine, depending on how much is in there. Of course the longer you run it at a lower level the more chance of long term damage you have as well.

As long as there is enough oil to keep the pump inlet submerged, (about 1 1/2-2 quarts) you will have normal oil pressure and complete lubrication.

As long as it shows on the dipstick at all, you should have at least 3 1/2-4 quarts.

But it is a good practice to check oil regularly, and keep it near the full level.
