Usually people who get curb rash don't know how or where to look to fix the rims. So, they get new ones and sell the old ones. If the wheels are priced in a fashion that you can personally fix them to look like new, then it is a good deal for you.

 

I know what you mean. I saved up (for a long time)and bought my last set of wheels. I was sooooo careful and people used to tease and say that I would scuff them up sooner or later. I made it a whole year and a bit before I kissed the curb one day. The worst sound ever!!

 

not everyone is a skilled driver/parker even Z owners

 

They ended up letting their gf/wife drive the car. Sorry ladies..but it true in many cases...

I got some curb rash on my 20's leaving the ATM, way too narrow at some of them.

 

im super careful and it still happened to me once, although in 4.5 years with the Z. I wasnt even in a rush or anything, i was actually trying to be super careful and park my car as close to the curb as i could on a narrow city street. didnt want anyone nailing my car and ended up with a 2-3in long rash on the lip. They can always be fixed though.

did that once in my Cobra. A lot of banks do have very narrow passages/lanes and high *ss curbs.

 

While being careful goes a long way to preventing curb rash, I'd bet a lot of people who get some kind of curb rash as a result of somebody else. When you have some dip-**** change lanes on you it leaves you with two choices - either get hit or run up on the curb. Most people take the instinctive action of avoidance and do the curb rash to themselves.

 

Ive hit 3 times , 3 different cars. All of them were pulling into a driveway catching the rear wheel where the curb slopes up. Ive also caught manhole covers and those stupid plates they put over fcked up parts od the road all over the Vegas area.

 

never curbed my wheels and i used to have some 19x13 on my m3 ;p

 

Low profile tires have stiff sidewalls that don't project outside the wheel. If you brush a curb, the wheel gets scuffed. The wheel that you scrape most often is the front passenger side wheel. The fix is easy and not too expensive. I've done it once in 4 years driving my Z. --Spike

I received a nice dose of curb rash on my Audi TT compliments of my wife. She didn't notice it when it happened, and didn't understand what the big deal was afterwards. She told me that cars are meant to be driven and that's what happens when you drive them.

Curb awareness. That will help prevent the nasty rash.
