I raced an 06 enthusiast in my 07 from 20, 30, 40 mph rolls and from a dig and pulled atleast three cars on it each race. My car is stock and he has a complete header back exhaust, no cats, pulleys, spacer, and greddy clutch. The higher redline makes a big difference because he would be shifting while im getting to all my power. HR all the way!

Take a look at the Nismo 380RS and the upcoming GTR. Its wildey speculated that the 08-09 G35 coupe/next Z will have a NA variant of the GTR's 3.7 or 3.8. If u think about it the Rev-up was only out for 2 years before Nissan released the HR. I am pretty sure they will just bore out the HR for the new cars.

They have to change something for 09. I mean seriously having the same body for 7 yrs is doubtful even for Nissan.

That's funny... isn't it!! I guess the 07 motor was underrated for INS purposes, LOL! It really comes in at 350whp

It all makes sense now... the 3-car thing from a dig

Well, The G37 is conformed to have a 3.7 in 08. VQ37HR... Rated at 330 HP. CR is up to 11.0:1.

That sure would be a sweet engine in the 08 z33.

But we should be so lucky... Usually the Z gets the g-coupe's engine in the following model year. Torque is only up by 2 lbs/ft over the 35HR though. I hope it's a broader curve

I'm sorry you're upset. But you set yourself up for disappointment when you asked a dealer to give you a reason not to buy what they had on the lot.

Nothing, but if Nissan says "we are just going to keep the same body style forever and just change the engine" they would still be making the 300zx body with the new HR motor. It's just nice to have something fresh. Couldn't imagine going to the dealer in 2010 and seing the same body style they made in 2003. Somewhere I read that the 09 will have similar styling of the current Z with a new body style. And if Nissan keeps tradition it will get the motor from the upcomming G37 (I guess thats what its called) with 330 HP. Not bad not bad

Yeah... Pretty foolish to trust the word of a dealer. He probably just didn't know. Plus, Nissan had *just* came out with the revup in 05, so I was suprised to see a completely new engine in 07.

I have said ti before, but I REALLY like the Z33. I'll prolly like the restyled 09 z too, but I would be happy with the 3.5 HR engine. I am actually going to trade up to an 07. The DE engine is the only thing I don't like about the 06. I got a chance to drive an 07 around for a couple of hours and I am sold. Much less NVH compared to the 06. Better low-end torque and power still builds past 6k RPMs.

Anyway, I have a while to hold out until I buy the 07. It'll take about 90 days to get what I want from the factory. I'm in no hurry... I can keep my hear to the ground for the 09 details, but there likely won't be any/ I won't be disappointed when the 09 comes out with a 3.7l. Likely weight will be up anyway and I think 10% increase can be had on the 3.5 from bolt-ons and possibly a tune.

It's hard to put a finger on the advantages of the HR over the DE, but it has to do with how the engine feels and sounds. The DE just sounds thrashy and buzzy at high-RPMs. The HR just purrrrs at high-RPM. More BMW-like, but still not as smooth of an engine as BMW's in-line 6. But a huge improvement over the DE... I'm not sure that a V6 could ever be as smooth as an I-6

What is this based on? Speculation? The engine seems pretty maxed out for the 3.5L V6. Exhaust mods should help....but I cant seem to think of anything else other than maybe lighter pullies, and mayyybe cams if and when those come out. I'll be happy with just my soon to be installed Nismo exhaust for now...the sound will be gorgeous. However, I will be itching for more mods. Then I'll prob go with short shifter (stillen has it on their website), stillen sway bars, and lowering springs.. Just wondering if '06 lowering springs will work on the '07. Are the struts the same as '06?

Yep... mostly Speculation. (wishful thinking)

Most cars that I have owned, I have tuned to some extent. It seems that 10% is an average of what can be had with basic breathing mods and a tune. Coming from Honda and BMW.

Remember auto manufacturers tunes the cars so they all work reasonably under all conditions... Heat, Cold, elevation. Being at sea level, we can get a bit more power out of our cars. Of course, being in CA, we are hosed because of the crappy 91 octane "premuim" gas that we get. Also, manufacturers have trade-offs to consider. They might be looking at a certain dB-output on the exhust or price-constraints, which are more important than realizing every last HP. Same on the intake side of things. So, pullies, flywheels, clutches and possibly intake or Throttle-body mods and exhaust might help a little.

But I agree there's not much left on the plate for the 07 - yet. We say that about all engines that come out. People were saying that about the revup engine when it came out and look what Hydrazine has done with the MREV2 and spacer... phoenominal! Now he's working on an exhaust that sounds equally impressive. We need Tony to move on to the HR... Too bad there's not as much bang for his buck yet on the HR. Meaning that if he develops aftermarket products for the HR, there's not as much of a consumer base out there to sell them to.

Nissan already got some nice gains on the HR, but the engine's 80% new and has some marked improvements in breathing. Look at the square shape of the intake runners where the lower collector meets the intake manifold - all to flow more air. But I guess it's still a 3.5. We'll just have to wait and see...

Let me/us know how the nismo sounds on the 07. The 07 exhaust sounds a bit different than older ones. Having it amplified through the nismo exhaust has got to sound awesome.... Can't wait for a subjective review...

I am afraid to lower because I scrape the front end here and there as it is. I do think that a set of Koni yellow (SA) shocks would be awesome on the Z. That's the first suspension mod I'll do when I get my 07...
