Perhaps it had to do with how the problem was described. If you described it as a "dead animal" smell (hence their searching for a mouse nest and "debri"), then that's definitely not work covered under warranty.

But if the smell was described just as a bad smell, it could have been due to something touching the exhaust, a leak, or who knows what. If they found nothing, there may have been no charge.

If it was the latter, I would call the service mgr and complain. If they're willing to bend at all, perhaps they can issue this as a credit for future repair work.

At least they didn't get you for the $250 front brake service!

Wait the only way you can have a deductiable is if you have an extended warranty.

I am a car dealer(New) and I know its a limited bumper to bumper...Thats with all manufactures. Now the limited part is the wear and tear items. You know belts, brakes hoses and tires....They didnt say it was one of those so which it is not anyways. Sounds to me like you should have questioned the bill there. I promise you since you have paid you will never get your money back.

I refused to pay once before I became a dealer at a honda store. It was on my ac stopped working. They tried to charge me a $65 diagnostic fee to tell me the same thing i told them. The compressor had stopped and I needed a new one. They had the ***** to try to charge me that and I went off! They came right over and took it off. I was not needed to put on the computer when you can hear it click on or off on any car. So anyways they took it off.

I will say if anyone has this problem If you dont dispute it before you pay than you have lost your money. Cause at that point the already got and could care less if you return there.

Oh yeah I cant spell I know!

Always pay by credit card. I have successfully challenged several spurious charges over the years at dealerships by notifying the credit card company by phone of “fraudulent” billing charges. This action immediately removes the charge from your card until the dispute is resolved. I then write a polite letter to the credit card company and copy the dealer explaining my side of the story. The card company has always been my advocate, and the dealer has always agreed with my assessment of the dispute when presented in this manner. In addition, I also indicate to the dealer in writing that I plan to notify the state attorney general of their business practices. [This tactic was particularly effective at a mob-owned dealership in NJ.] I employ these tactics only if the service manger is not willing to listen to reason at the time disputed service was performed. While words of frustration can be powerful, written communications are difficult to ignore, particularly when third parties become involved.

^^ Very good advice. I have done this as well in the past, and it's true that written communications tend to carry more weight. While it's tempting to write in the heat of the moment, it's often more diplomatic to wait a bit. It's difficult to retract written words afterwards!

our local nissan service center has never charged me a single dime for any warranty work while under warranty regardless of whether they could replicate the problem with the vehicle at the time.

Nissan replaced the MAS assembly on my Z ($530) under warranty. Didn't cost me a dime. They even paid for my rental... Maybe they wouldn't warranty your blown synchro cause they could tell you messed it up by racing, missing a shift, etc... Did they at least use a *little* lube as they bent you over??? A curtesy reach around at the *very* least!?!?!! Heheheee!

It probably was the "curse of the plastic bag" stuck to your pipes. If you do a search many owners have had the "curse" including yours truly. It will take about week to burn off or you can scrape it if you can't stand it.

a simple search would have saved you $100, since i am sure just about every Z owner that bought their car brand spanking new has has that wierd smell for the first 2K miles or so

That happened to my friend also. He brought in the car telling the repair tech that he thinks it's a burnt clutch... and a few hours later tells my friend that yup, indeed it's a burnt clutch and gives him a quote to change it.. the price was to high so my friend declined and the repair tech says... that will be $150 for diagnostic.

My friend got pissed and demanded to see the manager and the manager told him that's what it costs for diagnostic. Then friend then proceeds to yell "that's total ****ing bull****, I ain't paying for ****.. your tech just repeated what I told him from the beginning" and then starts to walk off the lot.. the manager yells at my friend and says "fine, if you don't want to pay, then you're not allowed to come back to this dealership!" And that's that..

Not in mine!

I have read the Warranty book, and Supplement to Warranty thoroughly and ther is no mentin of a decuctible.

And I have been driving Nissan vehicles since the mid-80s, and have never paid a deductible charge (or any other charge) for waranty work.
