Very cool x-post comparing Audi TT with the Z...
Being I currently have a 2002 Audi A4, I'm a regular on Audiworld, just noticed a very cool thread. This guy owns a TT and was invited to the Nissan San Diego design center with the guys from Car Magazine. They wante dto compare the Z with the TT. Very good write up including 65 pics! Overall, it is a pretty positive review coming from a TT owner, believe me, I know Audi owners can get a little snobby, except me of course...check it out!

Great find. But you know, I'm not at all surprised of the 'so-so' comments (and some praise) from the Audi owner. I swear everytime I come across a TT they either want to try (noticed I said try) and race or look at you like their driving a friggin Bentley or something? wtf?

Yeah it was interesting to see pics of the 2 side by side...the Z is a much better looking car and this is coming from a die hard Audi nut...my sister-in-law has a TT (hence, a chick car ) and believe me the car is very nice. The interior of the TT is by far the nicest interior I have ever been in. The leather sport seats are unreal. Also, the TT has this awesome genuine aluminum panel that flips down to cover the radio a la the controversial Nav door on the Z. The difference is that the TT door is real aluminum, it is dampened so it opens and closes with such ease, and it says TT on the cover. The Z would look so sweet with this setup instead of the ugly plastic lid. Just mu $.02

VW owners think they own the road.
BMW drivers know they do!

Nice find...thanks for posting.
I've sat in a TT at a dealership. The quality of materials is tops. Attention to detail in the things is excellent.
What I take note of is how much larger the Z is and seems. I saw the Z at the Atl. car show and it surprised me how big it is. I think you kind of get the same sense from these pics compared to the TT.

if you want a plush interior: get an Audi TT
if you want a sports car: get a 350Z
the only thing the guy says is superior in the TT is the interior, which is just fine with me.
damn i hate TT drivers. They all think they're the ****, like they're driving a Vanquish or something. They dont get it. They tried to blend luxury and sport. Far as sports cars go, the TT isnt up to par with the Z. Far as luxury goes, well, its not quite up to the upper level audis (a la S4, among others. Oh well.
(i do however wished we had a brushed aluminum panel where the dvd player would go with "Z" engraved in it.

Those are Porsches
but to answer your question, The TT does share the same platform with the Beetle.
In Fact it is also shared with the Golf

Although they are the same company, they don't necessarily use the same chassis. The Porsche 911 and Boxster and geared towards performance a lot more than the VW and Audi products. I would think that they use a more rigid platform.

mattyZ, LOVE the '02 A4! If I wasn't getting the Z it'd be at the top of my list. Dolphin Grey, 3.0, 6MT! I'm an AW regular on the OT forum as 'akediord'. What's your nick over there?
Welcome!

VW owns Audi and Seat, and Audi owns Lamborghini. But Porsche? I don't think so -- VW and Porsche have cooperated closely over the years (as with the 914) but they are still separate companies, AFAIK.
