Default How good is ur gas mileage?

Well today was very interesting. I was driving around the city and was reallly low on gas. Once the gauge showed ----- (no miles left) I was curious to see how many more miles I can get out of the Z knowing I only pump 17 gallons MAX and the Z holds 20 gallons? So there must be 3 gallons in there somewhere correct...? I check my miles right when the ----- hit and I was at 383 (more of city than highway driving). So when the gas gauge shows ----- I drove perhaps another 38 miles before I get scared to the point where I really thought my Z was going to run out of gas. My total trip miles ended up being 421. Has anybody else done a test like this and seen how many miles they can pull out of a Z wen the gauge shows -----?

i get about the same. i think because of the way our tanks are designed, it makes it not possible to completely suck out all the gas. but if you want to find out for sure, next time when you're getting low take a gas can with you and keep going till you're out.

I have only gone maybe 10 miles after the display showed ---. I didnt want to risk running out. On my last tank I drove 385 miles...which includes 50/50 city/highway, a high speed run in some twisties(angeles crest), and a run up to about 140mph. All that on 16.8 gallons which comes out to about 23mpg. Not bad eh?

EDIT: full throttle run from 20-140mph.

I fill up like that on a regular basis. I always wait for the gauge to give a --- reading. I usually start looking for a gas station once i hit 415 miles, and yes, I reset my trip odometer everytime i fill up, force of habit. Also, most I was ever able to fill up was about 18.9 gallons. Farthest I went on one gas tank was 437 miles, mix of city and highway miles. On a side note, how much is gas where everyone is? I was driving around last week and saw a Shell gas station for 3.29 for premium. Next day, I drove past the same gas station and premium was going for 3.59! Freakin' 30 cent jump over night! Now that is just ridiculous.. Im from the San Francisco bay area btw.

im from st. louis...and i think gas here right now is like 255 for premium...we've had those huge flucuations too...its a total joke man - only about 58% of the refineries are pumping out gasoline right now because the others are "down for maintenance" - total bs but whatever its a hell of a lot cheaper than gas in europe

Yea, gas prices suck big time. Average I would say is probably the same, around 3.30 ish... Im so happy not all of the stations around here are charging 3.60 a gallon, then again, I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

One of these days i will run it out , usually i fill up and its 15 to 17 gallons. In theory you display that tells you what your MPG is , just use that X20 and thats how far you should be able to make it.

Ummmm, I wouldn't. Running it dry will mess up your fuel injectors. Probably not too good for the pump either.

my gas mileage varies with the weather??? Does your alls? In the winter, it drops by about 5mpg at least. It's very strange. I'll baby the car all winter long to get 23mpg on average, and then the other day, when it was warm for a few days, i was FLOGGING my car, and i still averaged about 25mpg. I noticed at the end of last summer that it plummeted. very strange.
