I agree its a Z no matter whats under the hood.

Exactly. Like ..mine sports a 78 VW body kit, but obviously still a 3fitty...

Bottom line is, your car is nothing more than the sum of its PARTZ!!

I say if you change engines it is still the car it was before. If you took a 4cyl Mustang and put a v8 from the same year and put it in would you say it is no longer a Mustang? I'd say it is still a Mustang. Car companies use their engines in as many cars as possible.

Doing a swap or mods doesn't make it a 350z anymore, it makes it your car.

It depends if you know what a Scarab is......................

V8 powered Z or at least that's what the early model Z's are called, ie, 240, 260, 280. I know quite a few friends that race in their Scarab's and go extremely quickly.

Does a Z's engine have THAT much charector?

A Z is a Z cuase of:

1. Deisgn
2. Price/bargain
3. F/R

The VQ (in other forms) has been around for a while. The chassis is, well, lets not get into that.

You can put whatever motor in whatever car and it won't matter because we all know that the rsx will be faster.

I agree on that one. I mean the engine itself is a large part of the Z but say if I also replace the axles with GT-R axles and replace the windshield with a GT-R Windshield (theoretically making it fit) would it be a GT-R? Or just a modded Z?

We gotta remember that in the enthusiast world we step into modifications, a modification doesn't necessarily make it a different car.

Something else to consider, the GT500 Z has high performance Z PARTS in it that were specifically designed for the Z. I consider that still a Z.

I'm sided towards the chassis part of the debate, but let's just say it makes more sense to designate it as what it ORGINALLY came out as (a Z) and call it a "[Car A] with a [Car B]'s [part]".

A Z is a Z because of heritage, everyone recognizes and admires Z's whether 240, 260, 280, 300, 350 or maybe even 380 (ehh??). I dont think it matters throw whatever in mine vq35de, vq35hr, VK45de, or even an rb26 (although I think everyone knows which i would pick )

soo.... Nissan, the manufacturer, calls their race cars Z's, and they are 'definitely not a Z any more'

If a chick has fake **** and lip implants is she not a chick anymore?

This thread is dumb. If you want to do a swap, then swap it. It will be a Z no matter what. The chassis defines the car, the VQ comes in many models.

It's simple. It's still a Z, b/c even Z's have had different engines over the years. Would a 280ZX w/ a VQ35DE still be a Z? It has a Z engine, but not the engine it was designed for.

It's just not stock. That's like saying that if you modified a VQ (say swapped crank, pistons, rods, heads, etc.) then it's no longer a VQ once you've modified it.

I would conjecture that indeed, they are.

They are probably the most pure to the ethos of a Z car anyways. In a sense, the glorious production car we all own is just a castrated version of the JGTC car.
They dont use VK45s in the GT500 cars. Do your research before you post newbie. They run VQ30TTs.

A GT500 Z shares only some of the body styling of the street Z. Almost 90% of the car has nothing to do with our Zs. So many newbs posting as if they know what they are talking about. Do your research.
