Nissan Reliability?

I have owned my 1979 280zx since 1998. 300000 miles later and the motor is still going without a single rebuild, That's right, not once...and I have the records to back it up (somewhere)...

I would say Nissan's are quite reliable.

Because the Z's are so unreliable, Nissan has decided to cease production immediately.

every car is going to have it's problems as companies find ways to reduce cost each year. The important factor to consider is what problems each car will exhibit. I knew going into the purchase of my 03 that I was gambling with potiential tire feathering and tranny issues. After ~7k miles my tires feathered and my 3rd gear was grinding at ~14k miles. Both issues were resolved pain free from Nissan. The rewards of owning a Z are worth the trouble. IMO this is the best bang for your bucks overall sports car in it's class.

Overall, the Z has proven to be a reliable vehicle per Consumer Reorts.

You will be taking some risk with any car; Z will be relatively minimal.

just keep up on the regular maintenance and itll last for a long time. if you dont change your oil every 3000-5000 miles, dont expect it to last all that long.

Nissans are very reliable (see my sig... lol).

Seriosuly though.. it's way too early to get reliability ratings on a car that was just released a few months ago.

+1 on doing the regular maintenance and you'll be fine most likely. Nice color choice and good luck shopping

You have to remember that with any car, it's hit and miss with some problems. I have an '04 track that has not displayed one of the problem that any of the '03-'04's have been victim to. My '04 shift smoother than a hand full of '05's and '06's I have driven. So it really is a tough question.

However, I will say this...first year cars are notorius for having issues that get worked out the next year. I don't think waiting for the 3.7 will yeild any less worries. In fact, you might have a few more because the 3.5L, current body has been around for a long time and the '07 has only refining modifications to it. Not to mention the price increase you will see for the '08.

Good Luck!

So basically you bought the Z without really looking at it.. sounds to me like you made an impulse buy based on the hype and didn't really examine the reality of owning a 2 seat sports car. Hope you get over it!
