Question Best RPMs to shift during normal driving?

Just wondering people's opinions on the best RPM range for shifting (normal non-aggresive driving). "Best" as in least wear and tear on engine/transmission.

I've been shifting at around 3000 or so. Then cruising between 1800 and 2500 (depending on speed and whether I'm in 5th or 6th gear). Is it bad to cruise at lower RPMs (less than 2000)?

BTW - proud new (3 week) owner of an 06 DB Touring. Bought the dealer's last 06 off their showroom floor for 2K under invoice.

that isnt necesarily the best way to save gas. i've been driving stick for years and one thing i figured out is that shifting at real low rpms puts more strain on your motor and could get u worse gas mileage. in the z i tried shifting between 2k and 2.5k and i was getting about 16mpg around the city then i switched to my normal driving which is between 3k-4k and the mpgs shot back to about 18-19mpg. reving it out puts less strain on the motor and is easier on the car. makes u use less gas

I normally try to shift under 3k rpm for better mpg, and I get around 19~22 mpg in mostly city driving

I'm new to driving manual, I've been doing it for a week now! I shift around 3k, but I'm a fcking noob what do I know?

I have a stupid question, my father told me not to shift back into first unless I'm not moving at all, 100% complete stop... he said to keep her in second even at like 5pmh. I feel like it's going to die and I'm putting to much stress on it, but today I tried to put it back in first around 5pm and it wouldn't let me like it was locked.

Am I just retarded?

If I remember right, (it's been a couple years) it says not to drive in first above about 11 mph for a sustained period of time. Better to just feel like it's going to die, as long as it's not. I always downshift into second for engine braking when coming up to stops, just because I like the sound, but I'll never downshift into first.

I've noticed on my 07 the same thing.. If I shift around 3-4.5 I can get about 20mpg consistently. Otherwise, if I let it stay low it drops...

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter, as long as you are fully engaging the clutch with each shift. Running it to 6500RPM each gear doesn't hurt anything on a well-kept car if you are shifting humanely. Notice I said RPM, not RPM"s". There is no such thing as "RPMs".

Oh, and welcome.

Edit: I get 16mpg city, and I don't care or bi*ch about gas usage or prices.

I shift low when the engine is cold. When everything's all warmed up and happy I go anywhere below redline.
