looks like the average is shifting between 2-3k RPM during normal driving.

They're double synch at that. ANd second gear has a triple synchro!

Here's a novel approach to the whole "How/when to shift" thing. How does it feel ?

If you try to accelerate and you feel the engine struggling to gain rpm's, you're obviously in too high of a gear (or bumping the rev limiter, but that one should be obvious!).

Otherwise, you can't hurt the engine/car as long as you're not in the red zone. Don't ride the clutch either. Left foot goes to the dead pedal asap.

If it's fuel economy your after, you need to accelerate briskly (~70% throttle) so you spend the least amount of time accelerating, then shift to 6th. Don't give too much throttle because then the ecu will switch to "scram mode" (Open Loop) and start to dump fuel like crazy. DOn't hesitate to use engine braking as then the ecu is sending zero fuel.

Live happy, don't spend too much time debating silly topics online... hehe

Normal street driving I shift at around 3500rpm, I tend to find the low end pretty weak on the 350Z so I usually rev pretty high to get the car going. When doing spirited driving I usually shift at about 6700rpm or so on my 06 Rev-up.
