Default '03 tranny....is the dealership jerking me around?

So I had an '03 touring a couple years ago and the tranny started grinding in between 2nd and 3rd. Nissan replaced the tranny and clutch.....has anyone else had the same things replaced? So know I bought another '03(I know I should have bought a newer one) two months later same problem different car. The dealership said they'll replace the tranny but they won't cover the clutch and then he said that if you replace the clutch you have to replace the fly wheel too?!

I have an '03. I'm on Tranny #4 (so yea it is common). I think it's recommended to replace clutch and flywheel, but not required.

You didn't mention what kind of mileage is on your current Z, but replacing the tranny typically does not include replacing the clutch as well.

The Z's flywheel is a dual mass design, which makes resurfacing it a problem. Most machine shops (and certainly not the dealers) don't have the equipment, so that's why they recommend a new flywheel to go with the clutch. Particularly if the friction surface is badly scarred, the flywheel would have to be replaced.

Posts about transmission problems are second only to the Pop Charger.

well my first z's tranny went out at 11,000 miles. My Z now has 50,000 miles. I'm not paying them anything the service guy was like yeah you'll have to pay for the clutch and flywheel. I said my clutch doesn't slip at all! I called nissan today and they said that some regional guy would call me monday. I really wouldnt care about them not replacing the clutch except for the fact that there's tons of members(including me) that have had the clutch replaced......at nissans cost.

the service guy was like well you do have 50,000 miles on the car so maybe replacing it is a good idea! my friend's '03 has 90K on the orginal clutch....that and I'm most likely going to sell the car next summer.

Dealers use to replace the clutch when the replace the tranny but that is not the case anymore. They are moving away from clutch replacements, at least for the 03s, because most of them are starting to move out of the powertrain warranty.

even more great news!lol oh well the clutch feels pretty good right now. As long as I can get another 15,000 miles or so out of it w/out any problems. Then mr z is out the door for.....I'm not sure yet.
