I would say to get what you need.
My two cents are as follows: If you can get the Base at a really good price, then it is worth it. About as pure a sports car as the Z can be: rear drive, powerful motor and driver. Just keep the Cav for winter duty.
If you have to have the lsd/traction control, and can get the price of a Touring into your neck of the woods, then I say go for it. May as well drive in semi-luxury.
I'll be honest, I wanted a Touring, they didn't have any; and they had the Base on the lot, I test drove it, then I bought it.
