Its simple... stop smoking.
Lets face it... you only started to be cool in the first place.
It possesses no positive qualities other than make you sound tough when you say "Oh yeah, blah blah, I need to quit". Its disgusting and disrespectful and low class.
I'm surprised you even care about how your car is running. Since you obviously could give 2 ****s about your own health.
If not quit for your own health, and everyone else's around you... quit for the well being of your car.

The man is 75 and in poor health. He probably won't be there for long, just humor him.
The guy is getting back at you in any way he can, because, legally, he can't do anything else. And legally, you can't do anything else either.. sorta blows, having your hands tied like that! Personally, I would take all those butts he put on your step, and return them to him in kind... better yet, Fed Ex them to him

Throw some dry ice into his house and watch him freak out. If you're lucky his brain might fool his body into thinking it's real smoke, and he'll psychologically induce asthma upon himself.

you could also smoke in front of him and ignore him. when he gets fed up and tries to knock the cigarette out of your hand, call the cops. have him taken away in handcuffs for assault. you're minding your own business and the law will be on your side too.
