I ran into a friend of mine today that is a police officer , he noticed my car and said there was a accident I believe yesterday we're too early twenties gentlemen were traveling in a 350 Z that did not make a turn and went head-on into a horse fence which apparently was very strong ripping the top completely off the car and killing the two young gentlemen instantly. Does anyone know if he was a member of this form. It was a Le Mans sunset.

I will be praying for their families tonight...let this help be a reminder to us all to drive safely....i feel so foolish for all those times i used to street race...its so dangerous

Yikes, I'm 23 also, from Jersey, and took possession of my Z in late March ... almost identical to the guy that died.

 

I'm sorry to hear about these kids. Very tragic.

There is nothing wrong with pushing your car to the limits and "seeing what it will do." You've just got to find the right place to do it- public roads isn't the right place- Try an autoX or drivers school event run by SCCA, NASA or another organization w/ experienced instructors on a track...

The loss of these two young people is tragic. I have a son their age and can't even imagine the pain that this loss is causing.
Unfortunately, accidents caused by a combination of youth and speed happen every day.
Makes me wonder if the 350Z, and other road race designs are even more dangerous than the usual muscle cars that are simularly priced? I grew up with fast corvetts, mustangs, camaros, etc.......
Youth/elevated testosterone was a big driving factor for many straight line street races. Sure they could be dangerous, but, the races were generally from point A to point B in a STAIGHT line.
fast cars designed for true road racing, such as the 911, were way out of our price range. Now cars like the 350Z are far more affordable and make me wonder if the auto industry has added another potential danger.

they were in their early 20s, how much older do you need to be, we can all pedal bikes till were 40, but if we've never had power, would we be any better off then?

this is really to bad, always sad to hear about people getting hurt in an accident. judging by the fact that they hit a horse fence Im guessing they were doing it in an area that none of us would consider unsafe. could have just as easily been a tree.

 

LanceAA simply was observing that mature judgment is even more important when driving a high-performance automobile. And that such judgment often correlates with age.

 

My heart goes out to the families of these two young guys who, like us, must have been so excited about the new Z.

Unfortunately it only takes one brief error in judgement to end in tragedy. We've all done things in cars that weren't that smart but maybe seemed fairly safe at the time. I've done it; you've done it.

Let's let this tragic accident remind us all to just slow down and count each day as a blessing. Always, always be careful.

Maybe it had Stability control and ABS.

 

Good point, however you would think that the road would still have been scuffed enough to see some marking on the surface if the driver had braked very hard or turned suddenly. Perhaps any marks weren't readily apparent at the time the article was written though (the accident happened in the dark).

I know he wasn't at my meet in cape may... I'll say a prayer for their families... guys don't blame the car.. it could've been any car. They died doing what they loved.

Also note that they traveled 400ft after the impact. A football field and a 1/3. They were hauling *** at night on a road they were obviosly unfamiliar with (judging by lack of any skid marks at the turn where they flew off).

I feal sorry for them, but let's not make any excuses for them. By making excuses it only means they died in vain. Take a look and try to learn something instead so your parents don't end up having to go through the same agony.

 

Ill agree I skidded about 30yards, after jumping a curb, in the grass, on a down hill, and I was doing 50mph or so.

I could only imagine how much speed I would need to more than triple that distance.
