actually, less than double I believe. It's an exponential thing, plus I am guessing they were on grass, etc. I'm admitting I don't know here, won't ABS still leave some pretty visible pulse marks on the pavement?

The article was published today and it happened last week, so I am sure they had time to let the police investigate and verify there weren't any marks on the pavement.

I feal sorry for them, but let's not make any excuses for them. By making excuses it only means they died in vain. Take a look and try to learn something instead so your parents don't end up having to go through the same agony.
Well said......

As has been mentioned, if the death of these two people is to have any meaning, it is the cautionary warning it offers to the rest of us. We all want to discover the limits both of ourselves and the Z. And yet, if that process does not take place in an appropriate venue, the realization of those limits may come just as they are exceeded.

And then it is too late.

Be careful, then, if not for yourself, then your loved ones, and, if not for them, the motorists and pedestrians who share the road with you. Unless you know the limits of the car--which requires that you know your own--it will allow you to kill yourself.

So sad....and so stupid. What the hell was he thinking driving the hell out of a two day-old car that he was not even familiar with?

I hope you meant this as a rhetorical question because it really doesn't deserve a response. You calling the deceased young man "stupid" (or his actions "stupid", whatever) and using terse language to question his thinking only exhibits a display of insincerity and immaturity on your part. Yes, he killed himself and another person (unless the car malfunctioned, which I don't think anyone is claiming), but we can learn from this incident without jumping up and down and pointing out the obvious. Have some respect, man.

IMHO.

I believe there was really no way to tell exactly how fast they were going, I think the big problem is that he only had the car for a couple of days,
and that's why I do believe that a big part of Nissan telling you to take it easy for the first 1200 mi. is not just to break in the engine but the driver also.

This is terrible news, and I too hope they rest in peace. Just be aware that had the driver lived, he likely would have been charged with felony manslaughter. Sorry - driving to extremes is one thing - doing it with a passenger is inexcusable. Sorry if you think I'm a '*****' for saying this, but I PRAY that people learn from this and realize that people have to take responsibility for their actions. This is another tragedy that didn't need to occur.

I apoligize if I came off as a *****, but people need to start taking responsibilities for their own actions. If you like to drive fast and hard under uncontrolled conditions, you better be ready to accept the consequences. It's unfortunate that they paid the ultimate price for their actions, but I hope people will learn from this the next time they think about being macho in front of their friends.

I haven't seen anyone on this forum not taking "responsibility for their own actions"...unless you count the people trying to get out of a speeding ticket or at least minimize the impact to their pocketbook or their insurance rates. Even so, the people on this forum generally admit that they were speeding or that an accident that damaged their Z was their fault. I think we all pretty much know how to drive safely and take responsibility for our actions.

But I do agree with you. People probably need to slow down some and reduce risk. Since I criticized you before, your apology is accepted. Hopefully we will all remember this sad lesson when we are tempted to push the boundaries of our car and our own abilities. Things can go wrong in a hurry....

Peace,
WayneTN

Heh I'm 23 and in Jersey myself... and I think my "avg speed" on that lil trip computer thing is about 85.

Anyway.. I'm fairly convinced VDC would have saved their lives here. They seem to have lost it during a tight high-speed turn, most likely due to oversteer and too high a cornering-speed.

I've had VDC save my *** plenty of times when I just started driving the car.. I had no clue I'd be fishtailing all over if I had turned it off.

Ah, how sad. I really hope there's an afterlife.

VDC can't overcome the laws of physics. Don't make a mistake by believing it can.

May they R.I.P.

Not going to disagree with you really...however I believe that judgement is more experienced based...correlating with age

What I find amusing is everyone pushing to make kids wait until they are older to drive. You know what that means to me? More of those same people that wreck when they are first driving will just be older than before. Imagine an 18 year old behind the wheel scared, tryin to figure everything out instead of a 16 year old. 2 years difference in age..and they would both still be just as dangerous behind the wheel. We just need to push for MORE time behind the wheel..rather than making people wait longer to drive.

As far as these two guys go..may they RIP. Im their age and have had some hairy incidents in my Z28 when I first got it. Not even showing off..just not understanding the physics of handling something that feels so balanced..even when it isn't. One incident could have been saved by using ASR (Traction Control System)... another incident WAS saved from using it. Those are the only two memorable incidents ..and its been a few years since anything scary has happened. Chalk it up to inexperience..its just a shame they are still not alive to learn from that experience...no one should lose their life that young..

*...Moment of silence...*

This made me think twice of my actions. I only live like 5 minutes from the spot of their accident, and I too used to speed at night around here. And I know that when you're drivin around here fog patches come out of no where. I've almost crashed too because of this, but luckily there were no cars, and the curve i took wasn't too sharp. I am very fortunate, and I won't take any chances like that anymore. May they rest in peace....
