Default Looks like the saddest day of my life is here

Well, Looks like the day is here. The Z has got to go. I had the Z as my toy and a beater car for the daily grind.

I need to consolidate to one car - so I put a deposit on a 2007 4dr tornado red GTI with the DSG transmission. I drove it this morning and it actually feels quite nice. The DSG is definitely awesome - but its still no Z

I got it for around 150 bucks over invoice - for $23K even. The VW dealership was the last one I visited. I stopped by the Audi dealership to check out the A3 (very nice - but overpriced) , the mazda dealership to see the mazdaspeed 3 (I could not drive that one - it was on the showroom floor) and finally the VW dealership.

Now all three are owned by different groups of people - no connection at all. So I was really surprised that all of them gave me the exact same number for my Z, if I were to trade it in !!.

They all came back with $21.5K. Is it only me, or is that really weird ?? BTW My Z is an 05 touring with 15K miles on it. I was expecting the numbers to be all over the place.

This is an awesome group of folks - hopefully there is a GTI forum somewhere too. I am definitely going to continue hanging out here though

Sorry to see you getting out of your Z. As for the trade in price it's no accident that they gave you the same number. They are all looking at the black book wholesale market value of the car. Your Z will be back on the lot for sale for around $25k.

Sad. But I hope the dealership knows to let the new owner know about the forum.

GTI is a great car. The new turbo model can make very good HP with minor upgrades. As far as vwvortex, they can be some real a$$holes there. I've been there. Europeanag.com is a great bunch of people and a great site. Vortex site does have some good folks but just as many jerks. Of course it been a couple of years so maybe they've cleaned up a bit. As far as the GTI, theres tons of mods. for this car. Enjoy it.

It's true it's true but it really is a great source of anything automotive, you just have to find out who the experts are and who are just posing. Just never ever bring up the VR6/__.t debate!

The DSG is really quick.

In a best motoring comparison the DSG quicker than a same car with 20hp extra but w/ manual tranny.

I should have mentioned - The beater is a 1999 hyundai Accent. Need I say more ? Its going straight to charity. So what smells like "fish" ?

Even more sad than losing a member is that a lot of these Zs that are sold end up back on this forum with a "I just totaled my Z" thread. Used Zs are ending up in some bad drivers hands. Good luck with the VW.
