How is the Z on roadtrips?
10 hours straight from San Jose to San Diego in horrrrrrible weather (read=apocalypse) and it was still a joy to drive. My back didn't even bother me at all, and I am pretty tall.
Well I drove about 2,800 miles in january...from virginia to georgia, tennessee, illonoins, kentucky and misouri (cant spell states omfg FTW) anyways....It was great ont he trip...i was avergaged abnout 512 miles per tank with cruise controle going 80 pretty much the whole way...I thought it was awesome...and my car was completly packed between a 10-foot fake x-mas tree and 2 duffle bags and a gallon bag of skilttles....I would also suggest getting satelitte radio...it saved me!!!

I did a 6 day, 3,300 mile, roundtrip from Kansas City to Key West a few years back.
Fun trip. But by the last 2 days on the way back, I felt as if someone had been punching my kidneys.
But she drove like a dream. Cruising at 100, when I had the chance, felt like 65 MPH in a normal sedan. Just too hard to keep it under 80.
Plenty of room for luggage if you use soft bags. We each had a soft bag & a backpack.

I took a road trip to Virginia from NY last yr. Was about a 1000 mile round trip. My lower back was hurting towards the end. I'm only 5'8 140lbs. My GF had a pillow for more comfort. But I did have fun driving in the Z.
I think the car is confy, for some of us it is not great.
Adjusting the hight canter and back rest position will solve it.
So time the "right"position for "Driving " may not be the right position for "Long drive".
But, for some of us there back will hurt in a Crown Vic after a tousand miles too.... .
So...!I like it never done any long trip yet, but I find the seating position very nice.
Now, you cannot match every one in one seat so, some of us may need the ***** on there seat thing, or the foam thing, or the heated pad if they didn't get the Touring model...... .

I love my Z on roadtrips, thats when you really form a bond with a car. I do 1000mi round trips every couple weeks (NY to Va). Obviously the seat has a lot to do with your sanity around hour 5 into any trip, but for me it fits like a glove (5'9" 150). 6cd changer has plenty of tunes, front visabilty is good, maneuverability through traffic is no sweat, gas mileage is impressive ~30-32mpg. Make sure you have your spare & tools, you'd be surprised at the junk you see on the roads. And a coat of wax helps.
I will also note that I never get sick of the 10 year old boys that go ballistic in the car next to you as you pass them in sports car.

Road trips are not as bad in a Z as you might expect, that is if weather is permitting.
I drove 1,200 miles non-stop (except for gas/food respectively) to get my Z, slept 5 1/2 hours and drove the 1,200 miles non-stop back in the Z (learning how to drive a stick in the process hah) The biggest issue I had was with lower back support; I brought a pillow and alternated it's position every gas stop or so....
Depends on what you're used to, my previous car was a sport car that had quite the rough (relatively, many people are used to driving much smoother cars...ie luxury cars) ride so the Z made me feel right at home...

i drove from san diego to wisconsin non-stop which was a dumb thing to do. i started to get the signs when i was swirving from the sleepiness setting in. did i stop to nap? no i drove on. then when i finally got to wi i started to hallucinate. overall my legs got sore my back was killing me i slept for a day and a half straight afterwards. overall the z's seats were quite more comfortable than my previous car. (civic) i drove that one from san diego to north carolina. would i ever drive by myself like that ever again.... dont bet on it.
i drove from dallas to new orleans last spring break. the trip wasnt bad, i made one stop for gas and it took about 4 1/2 to 5 hours to get there. i got a 29 miles to a gallon and i went 80 most of the way. use your cruise control. as for the sore back use your seat warmers if you have them. mine came in handy about midway.

The life you save may be mine.
My '06 ZR Touring Auto is a great road car (except for gas mileage). Huntsville to Austin (975 mi)- no problem, except for gas stops at 300-350 mi. I'm 6-3, 275 and found the seat to be fine. Running in the 85 range, I got low 20's for mileage (and a ticket in LA). The 6 spd might be better.
I spent a year in the Z....had a sales job that required being in the car like 6-8 hrs a day toolin around different cities. To get it kick started I drove from phoenix to seattle. tooled around seattle for a few months, then hit Anchorage Alaska, then down to LA, then back to phoenix. I did this all with my Doberman in the passenger seat. I put 40K miles on that year
....loved every one of them.
Now I wish my Z had less miles, but at least I know where they came from.

I took a trip for Toronto, ON to PEI (tip to tip), through Nova Scotia (including the Cabot Trail) and to Halifax and back in my '06 and loved it. mileage was great, the car never broke a sweat. it was about 7500 kms (4600 mls) and took us 10 days....would do it again in a heart beat!! some pics... http://flickr.com/photos/youngvedder/page5/
We also Camped the entire time, so tent, cooler, food, clothes, and **** we bought were tucked in every knoock and cranny!
cheers,
