How is the Z on roadtrips?
How is the Z on roadtrips?
The G/F and I are going to take my Z from MN to the L.A. area in June. How are these babies on those long trips? Im hopin to squeeze out about 400 miles to the tank.
Anyone have any advice on taking these things out for a 1900mi journey?

That's going to be a LONG trip in the Z. I drove straight from Denver to Dallas, it's about an 11 to 12 Hours trip at 900miles. My lower back was killing me. More than doubling the distance would be rough. I am 6'2" so I have less room to wiggle around than most.
I have a convertible so the top down was great, I wouldn't have any problem doing it again, but not 1900.
400 Miles to the tank shouldn't be a problem, I averaged about 27 miles to the gallon doing 80 - 90 most of the way.

If you want to save gas, putting it in 6th while on cruise control will give you "civic like" mileage.
I find I do get tired after driving more than 6 hours in the Z, while I could go much longer in other cars. However, I'm usually driving pretty fast, and that may be why I start to get tired after 6 hours. All in all, I think it's a great roadtrip car. Fits everything I need, not bad mileage and fun.
I would also look at fun side roads you can take rather than the interstate. The interstate can be quick, but less fun... and it's nice to see the actual countryside.

Yes I was thinking about that. Also my g/f will be driving too, so that takes off some of the haul.
The mileage is a no brainer but the highway ride maybe a bit long in the Z. Anything over about 4 hours of monotonous driving in the Z is a headache. Throwing backroads and a time limit to path taken makes trip much more fun.
A 12h haul is not a problem with the Z. I do it often when I'm visiting my familly in Montreal. Lean the back rest one or two notches and enjoy the drive. Only the fully loaded Titan was more comfortable than the Z.
With the cruise control at 75mph you can expect to hit 500 miles to the reserve. My bladder usually makes me stop before that though...

I got you guys beat... 15 hours straight, from DC to Wisconsin, in my BASE Z. Read: no cruise control. Good times, nice, sore legs and lower back. Loved the mountains in Pennsylvania though.

I've made a few trips to the West Coast (from Denver) and my experience with the Z is that it's respectable over distances. As others have said, using sixth gear will allow the Z's software to lean out the fuel mixture and get some impressive MPG figures. Since adding an adjustable lumbar support (originally designed for pilots) to my stock seats, the back fatigue isn't much of a factor any longer. I also love the MB Quart speakers and US Acoustics amp to power them- turn on, tune in and rock the highway!
7 hours (with wife bathroom stops and traffic thru Connecticut) from DE to Cape Cod, MA is my longest trip. It wasn't a bad trip at all and when the highway was moving I was getting great mileage. You do stiffen up sitting that long, but if I could drive 7 hours on my couch I doubt I would feel good when I got up.

then sit back and enjoy the ride. I've taken several road trips, from 5 to 12 hours long (one way) and arrived suprisingly relaxed and refreshed. The Z is actually a very nice ride at highway speeds on good quality roads. Stop every two hours or so to stretch your legs and move around and you'll do fine.

I don't think they were useless at all. Entertainment is never useless. Perhaps someone was super depressed today, and needed an RSX joke to pull them through the day? Well... those pick-me-ups are gone now. I don't want future blood on my hands.
