Damn. Glad you're safe.

Post updates, please. We'd all like to know how this started. It could be a recall issue, it may not.

You should just let it burn.
I owned a 330ci before, and it burnt. Insurance pay me back, then I got a Z

The only possible thing I could think of that would cause a fire would be overloading some wiring with more current than it was designed for. Typical car stereo power cable meltdowns are caused by too large a guage wiring, while forcing more current through it than it can handle. End result is the cabling melting down, igniting some flammable material.

Glad you're ok.

Keeping a smaller "dual halon"(wtf that is) fire extinguisher in front of the passenger seat and a much larger ABC co2 extinguisher behind the driver seat brings peace of mind.

No need for the ricer A-pillar mount(aka "my car is this hot") when you know where it is when you need it and it won't roll under the seat.

If this is an electrical fire, it's a good idea to make some sort of on/off/kill/etc switch on the negative battery terminal to cut the power when a wire starts to fry the insulation. An extinguisher may not help with melting copper wants to fuse with your fuel line.

Best of luck in repair and I wish that it doesn't happen again! These things usually are not your fault, unless the battery is grounding on your hood or something obvious like that.

Just an opinion comming from a Firefighter...... Never open your hood if you have a fire in your engine compartment..... When you let a vast amount of O2 into any fire you are feeding it. If you are gonna fight the fire just "pop" the hood(do not open) and stick hose or extinguisher through the crack between the fender and the hood that you created from poping it.

And about the dual halon..... Halon extinguishers are no longer available because the work on the principle of comletly eliminating the O2 form the air....Accidently set off a halon extinguisher in your car and it could be a very quick death if you didnt know what was going on.

I thought it was just smoke I didnt see flames until I opened the hood. If I didnt see the flames I would of walked away and my car would have been ashes

Thanks for the info though
