Default What are the differences between the 350z and g35x engine

Hi guys,

I recently lost some compression in cylinder 6 on my motor and have found a 04 g35x engine to do a direct swap.

Will I need a different wiring harness to plug into my ECU?

Are there any differences at all that would get in the way when doing a longblock swap?

I tried to search for differences and didn't come up with anything, so I assume they're the same, but I just wanted to make sure before I spend the money.

first off, if it is a G35X then it is a AWD engine, you may have some issues with that, mainly with the rear driveshaft and what to do with the front system. not really sure this engine would even work in a 350Z, even with a ECU since the system is used to control the AWD in the first place. might be better off finding another VQ35 Z engine for this. for an idea of what will be involved to do somethign like this, check out this:

Oil filter position is different on the AWD VQs, from the upper oil pan up it is the same motor.

Thanks, so I can just pull my oil filter housing from my old motor.

What about the wiring harness?

Swap oil pans and sensors from your motor to the other and it will be fine.

Doesn't seem like it would be worth it since some of the sensors are located within the block ie. knock sensors..
