I can speak to the subject. I own a 2003 Z touring and a 2006 GTO. Totally different cars in styling and driving characteristics but both great cars. I think the Z looks better however the GTO does not look like a Grand Prix and it turns more heads here in Los Angeles then the Z. More people want to race the GTO. To be honest the GTO destroys the Z on 0-100 and beyond however I would rather have the Z on the twisties but the GTO is a great drift car. Top speed in the GTO is electronic limited to 163 in USA and it will go 175 oversees. The interior in the GTO is nicer however I have not driven the 2007 Zs and I know they have improved the fit and finish. Drive both and decide for yourself.

Whatever you read didn't give you all the facts. Yes, the S2000 does get crappy gas mileage. Did your article mention say that the S2000 only has 13.2 gallon tank? I don't own a G/350, so I assume they have a bigger tank which gives them more miles to the tank.
Which I don't give a damn about gas mileage. And I am a future G/370 owner.

I've read through several pages of this thread, and I've decided to add my 2 cents.
The GTO isn't a bad car.
The Z and GTO are very very different cars. Here is the end all be all statement:
If you're looking for linear speed, then the GTO is for you.
If you're looking for cornering speed, then the Z is for you.

I've driven them all and this is what I will say about them.
GTO-nice interior. tons of stock power and a great sound. firm feel around corners. ugly as hell without heavy mods done to the exterior
S2k-ok interior. too much engine noise without being very impressive. cool tachometer. feels like a clunky version of a Z. zips corners very good. looks like a beffed up miata
Z-no frills interior. medium engine noise with considerable stock power. very quick through turns and nice top end. nearly the cornering car the s2k is. best looking of the 3 by far.

I own a 2006 LS2 GTO. Not one single time has the weight been a factor in a race, 400 hp goes a looong way to making up for a few extra pounds. I have never been to a track, but I will say that not one 350Z (or mustang, or a whole lot of other cars) has beaten me on the street yet. I'm sure the day will come, but not yet.
Test drive each, then decide. I drove a 350Z, nice car, really sharp, good handling, but just not enough power. Also, back seats come in handy. So I got a GTO and could not be happier. It has around 9lb/hp power to weight ratio, which is very good. So it doesn't matter that the GTO is a big car, it has way more than enough power to overcome its weight.
By the way, the GTO is not called "goat" as a term of derision. Goats are agile, quick animals that eat everything they find. The name came around simply because G T O is cumbersome in conversation.

i think the Z is actually a balance between them both. V6 power with the nice HR. Handeling now comaprable to the s2k 07+ and really alot more practical then the GTO in terms of standing out. I get GTOs confused with grandams grandprixs.....they really botched that cars design. Only the rear is really nice from what i have looked at. But its already discountined isnt it and the s2k is also discountined. So is there still a debate ?
Also GTOs have horrid traction issues.
To me nothing beats the older GTos. The new ones are really not desended from anything heritage wise from the pevious ones.
Id say teh Z all teh way. With gas prices though i may lean to the s2k.

It is no longer made. The car has nick name called the GOAT for a reason. It's a overweight slug. And it is definitely not as fast as some here make you believe. It may have the hp numbers but the weight just kills it.

They never halted production. It doesn't say that anywhere about being remodel. Show proof! I backed up my info. The stopped production because it didn't sell!
The G8 that is coming out is basically the new V8 4 door car that will take its place but its not a replacement or restyle by any means.
Gosh you are so stupid. You are telling people even in other posts learn more before you talk, and your the one that has no clue!
