Default Another Noob shifting question

was wondering if it was proper form to push the clutch completely down (all the way to the floor) in order to switch gears. Or,exactly how far down is enough, without hurting clutch or tran. Still trying to get used to the Z clutch and power. Did not get much out of the search engine for this question.

Thanks in advance

I dont think there is a problem unless you hear a crunch man... Just drive.. put in clutch - i dont think i go all the way down.. but just shift normally - should be fine -- no one likes a clutch rider

All the way down... to the floor... everytime you shift.

On the street? Yes. Plush the clutch to the floor. Why wouldn't you.

Our clutches engage high, so it doesn't matter (except for some peoples peace of mind) if your pedal actually touches the floor. The farther you push the pedal down, the bigger gap you are putting in between the pressure plate/clutch/flywheel assembly, but as long as the are not transmitting friction between each other it is safe to change gears.

I find it to be quite a bit easier to rev match when I don't have 4 inches of pedal travel after a gear engagement.

lol @ people giving answers without even knowing how a clutch works.

you dont need to push it all the way...just enough to disengage it while you shift to the next gear.

I was out running around today and I noticed that there wasnt much difference when pushing the clutch all the way down or just 75 percent down.
Seems like there is mixed asnwers for this. But your comment does make sense. I think ill just stick to pushing it down completely...for now

What you need to ask yourself is if it's really that much more of a pain to push it the entire way compared to the possible risk of not pushing it far enough. I would say with normal driving there is no reason why u shouldn't just play it safe and push it the extra couple inches.

it does not matter as long as it is fully disengaged. to the floor or 3'4ths the way down. dosent matter as long as it doesnt grind

So... how far is that, 2 inches, 4 inches, or maybe until you mystically feel that it is the right distance?

Why is this even a debate? For everyone saying "Push it to the floor", can I have a reason? Forums have bad names because people JUST SAY STUFF. If you don't know, don't comment. A little explanation goes a long way around here.

Seriously, one more thing. How do you know if your clutch is disengaged? Easy. If you are at 3,000rpm and you push the clutch pedal down, once the rpms fall, you are disengaged. Pretty simple.

Do you do some "test grinding" to determine that point?
