Default Question on setup for the tire pressure monitors

Here's the story.. I just picked up a set of 4 18" wheels/tires (they only have 17 miles on them!) with the remote tire pressure monitors. I want to install the 2 larger tires on the front of my Touring model so I will have 4 the same size tires on the car.. Curious how the car will drive. What's involved to get the remote tire pressure monitors setup so the 2 new front tires will send a signal back that is correct?? Has anyone done this yet?? And has it worked or does the car have to go back to the dealer to have the sensors calibrated??

What do you think??

you know you could have gone out and just purchased 245/45/18 tires and mounted them on the front rims, the rim size is the same... or so Ive heard.

anyway, Im not sure how it would respond, I made sure that F/L sensor went onto the front left tire. and so on. but maybe the sensors are all the same and the reciever is in the wheel well, and thus knows which is which. not sure.

to be safe, you may want to just take your old TPM out of the old front tire and put it into the new front tire.

ares, I padi a bit over $1,000 for all 4 tires & wheels.. The whole idea was to have a spare set of tires/wheels because of the poor condition of our roads after the winter. A friend damaged 2 wheels in a pot hole and it cost him over $2500 to have them replaced.. I have no complaints with the Bridgestone tires.. They are wearing very well with no feathering or any other problems.

I really don't want to dismount the tires if i don't have to. I'm sure the sensors are set up after the wheels are mounted and that there is no difference between the sensors as to front right or rear left.

I will go thru the service manual and read up on this. Will let the list know..

True. According to the specs that I have, the 18" wheels - both front and back are 8" wide. However, for the 6AT touring and the 17" wheels - the front is 7.5" and the back is 8".

OK.. Just went to the service manual and under chapter Suspension, WT Road Wheels & Tires on page WT-23 & 24, it explains how the transmitters are set up for each wheel.. Looks like a special tool called a Transmitter activation tool (J-45295) is needed.. Looks like a job for the dealer..

Oh well.. so much for doing this myself..
