Default What to look for when picking up a new Z

Hey guys,

I'm supposed to be picking my Z in a couple hours and wanted to get your thoughts on what to look out for in a new car (and I don't mean the speeding tickets ) The car is an '07 touring (new owner post to come when I finally get my hands on the keys!) and I've spent about a week reading these forums looking for potential red flags. So far, I've come up with:
1. Sticky clutch
2. Clicking transmission (though I believe this was mostly a problem with the 06)
3. Chips in the front bumper
4. Less than solid interior compartment locks
5. Skippy CD player
Is there anything else I'm missing?

Cheers!

What color are you getting? I am planning on getting mine within the next few weeks/days (once I find a damn MT enthusiast...or settle for base) and one thing I'm really going to try is to have the dealer NOT wash the car before delivery. I'm probably going for black. I just went with a friend to buy his new Altima (black as well) and at first it looked great, but once we got home, with less light, we noticed hundreds of thin scratches running sideways around the side panels. Most likely from the dealer washing it/drying it with a dirty rag...
Although I have been reading and getting (black) cars from the dealers seems a lot of people received them with light scratching already....

Look at the front lip for major chips, tire tread, if it has Bose turn it on and see if all the speakers work good, look for rash on the wheels...

I did get the black. I'll definitely take a look at the paint. Thanks!

I went with black as well, no scratches.

Love the black, but be ready to wash it like every 2 or 3 days

:-)

On mine I didnt notice when I picked it up that I did later.
Have them take off the blue dots on the wheels.
My gauge console does not sit perfect on the pass side.
Also my driver side fender sat closer to the A piller then the other side. So the paint peeled up a little.
Go over it with all detail. if not, no big, my dealer took care of the misc crap.

Open all the doors hood and hatch. Look for body tape lines from touch up or accident damage in the paint. Also look on the A-pillar and in the gas cap cover for the same thing. Carefully inspect the rubbers at the window seals and around the windshield for overspray.

I made sure they didn't drill my front bumper for the front plate. I just said that I had a Z bracket at home and would install the front plate myself. Of course, I don't... and won't, until I get my ticket for not having it and I have to. ;p

Apparently you aren't familiar with what goes on at MANY car dealerships in their lots.

A FEW REMINDERS WHEN TAKING DELIVERY OF YOUR 350Z

1) PREMIUM FUEL: The 350Z requires premium fuel. Please ask to make sure that your Z has a full tank of premium fuel.
2) TIRE AIR PRESSURE: During shipping, tire pressures may be higher than required for normal driving. Please check the air pressure in all tires and adjust, as needed. The proper tire pressure for both front and rear tires is 35 psi.
3) PASSENGER SEAT BELT: The passenger side seat belt is equipped with a clip on the passenger side B-pillar to secure the seat belt when not in use. Secure the passenger side seat belt to the clip to prevent unnecessary cabin rattle noise when the belt is not in use.
4) Z's EQUIPPED WITH ALUMINUM PEDALS: The aluminum pedals are protected during shipping with a clear plastic film. Make sure the film is removed from the pedals.
5) ANTENNA ROD: Make sure the antenna rod is firmly attached to the antenna base.
6) FRONT TOW HOOK COVER: Make sure the black plastic "L" shape cover is installed in the center of the lower front grill (directly below the license plate frame, if a front license plate frame is installed).
7) OPTIONAL AUTO DIMMING REARVIEW MIRROR: If your 350Z is equipped with the optional auto dimming mirror, the compass may require calibration. Refer to the instructions included with the mirror on how to calibrate the mirror for the zone where the Z will be operated.
8) STORAGE BOX / OPTIONAL NISSAN NAVIGATION SYSTEM LID: A black colored label provides instruction for closing the lid when the storage box or optional navigation system is not in use. Do not remove the label from the lid.
9) TRACK MODEL FRONT AERO DEFLECTOR: The track model front aero deflector is stored in the trunk area during shipping. The dealer will have removed and reused the bolts securing the front engine splash shield to mount the front aero deflector.
10) BATTERY DISCONNECTION / DOOR WINDOW CONSIDERATIONS: The 350Z has a feature that lowers the window about 10mm when the door is opened. This feature also raises the window about 10mm to a "fully raised" position when the door is shut. This is to reduce wind noise and reduce door-closing effort
If the battery of a 350Z is disconnected while the doors are closed and the windows are in the fully raised position, the top edge of the windows may hang up on the edge of the roof, when the doors are opened or closed. This could damage the window, roof, or door glass run rubbers.
11) OPTIONAL TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS (350Zs with 18" wheels): 350Zs equipped with this system can be easily identified by the silver-colored valve stem installed in each wheel. Also the valve stems look slightly larger around (in diameter) than regular rubber valve stems.
Make sure the tire pressures are displaying properly.
12) RECORDS AND PAPERWORK: Be sure to keep the factory window sticker. It will have your 350Z's color and trim code, VIN and list of all equipment and options. And remember to get any and all agreements in writing from your dealer.
For more information on all these features, see the 350Z Owner's Manual.

That's the optional accessory for Base model (which doesn't have auto-dimming mirror from factory).
It looks like this:

Feel and inspect the underside for scrapes, especially on the mud/splash guards. I found my rear guard to be seriously scratched due to bottoming out off of the delivery truck at the dealership. BTW, the dealership replaced.

Ckeck inside each lug nut opening for scratches. This is from experience on a brand new 06. The dealership has do to a PDI (Post Delivery Inspection) on the vehicle. That includes taking off each wheel to check the brakes.
