My previous car, a 1998 Acura Integra, has the wiper on the same side as the Z. I'm not really sure what would make one side 'right' and the other side 'wrong.' I DO know what makes one side 'right' and the other 'left,' though

The rear window is so easy to see out of, even in heavy rain that the wiper provides almost no usefulness. I wish I didn't have it. I have used it a few times and it doesn't really do much.

Funny how you all say you can't see near the car. At my height, all I can see is wheels, grilles, and headlights. I can't see the hood or above, sometimes barely the headlights. I have to duck down to see the roofs of cars.

it was the same thing with the Integra hatch's.....it had the wiper on the passenger side and didnt go a great job of getting the glass clean. I just took it off and plugged it up which i plan on doing with the Z as well.

Since the rear window is non-functional (can't see much out of it), I don't know if the wiper is an issue.

Here's my opinion on this trivial pursuit question...

The reason might be cost and fairness.

For the Z33.... the handbrake and rear wiper are in the same
location for both Japan and US spec models. The handbrake is on the correct side for US spec and the rear wiper is on the correct side for Japan spec.

For the Z32......the handbrake and rear wiper locations were reversed, I believe.

In one 350Z brochure I have (not the one sealed with orange tape) shows the US spec Z with the rear wiper on the left side. JMS in TX

For the first couple of months that I had my Z I tried lining up the rear view to encompass the whole rear window....the way you normally would in any other car. If you arrange the rearview mirror like that you end up with a severe down angle where you can only see about 10 to 20 feet behind you. A little while ago I got tired of having to bend down to see farther behind me and I fiddled with the mirror. If you position the mirror such that you are only using the bottom half of it, the view will be MUCH farther out and visibility will be improved, but then again you will be seeing the ceiling for the top half of the mirror. Your choice really.

I HIGHLY doubt this could be classified as a *mistake*.

First of all, it probably makes no appreciable difference.

Seocnd of all, who made the rule that it goes on one side or the other?

Lasty, my wife's Integra also has this *MISTAKE* so I guess Acura also "just let it slip by because no one complained".

I wouldn't call the wiper placement a mistake. (I don't own a Z) but it doesn't sound like it real big deal anyhow. A bigger deal is stuff like the G35's radio volume buttons being on the wrong side. If you've seen JDM cars or any other that are supposed to be driven on the other side of the road, you'll see what I mean.

A bigger deal is the Toyota RAV4 (don't ask why my dad bought it) has a rear door that swings the wrong way. If you park on right side of the road and open the hatch and wanna get a big item in the car from the sidewalk , you have to go all the way around the car. The door hinges are on the passenger/sidewalk side.

I think in both cases, they just didn't wanna bother to mirror the design (and have different tooling for it).
