Default General 350z question

Does anyone know where 350z are assembled? Are they assembled in Japan or are they assembled in North America, but the parts are made in Japan?

Wow, some people are clueless or they are forgeting to use winkies. All Z's are made in Japan. The current Z's are made at the Tochigi plant, but I forget the exact year they moved them to that plant, but I think it was 2005, maybe 2004. I have been there, and it was cool to see the 350Z and G35 on the same line. Driving on the test tracks around the plant was even better.

The switch from Oppama to Tochigi was made in early 2004.

If they were assembled in the US, it wouldn't take 3 months to order one. I was, and would be in the future, happy to wait the 3 months if my exact desired one couldn't be located by a dealer.

they made the switch in 04

that is why there is like an 04.5 model because in the new plant they used the 05 specs for the 04 production line

Nope. I have a 2004.5 produced in Dec 03 at the Oppama plant. The switch to a different plant has nothing to do with model year changes.

I'm guessing the '04.5s happened because some problems/complaints in the initial run of the 350Zs were finally analyzed and fixed. BTW, the quickest way to tell if it is an '04.5 or later = knee pads on both sides of center console.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, the 04.5 cars picked up some updates as a result of the 03 car problems and issues. I think there were actually some 04 models that got the knee pads so that's not a 100% sure-fire test.

The official way to tell is in the VIN #s:

2004 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs up to D*4T160000,E*4T060000) (Roadster VINs from D*4T102001 to D*4T110000 & from A*4T002001 to A*4T010000)

2004.5 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs from D*4T160001, E*4T060001) ( Roadster VINs from D*4T110001, A*4T010001)

The difference in the 2006 vs 2006.5 cars is the .5 models have the advanced airbag system. I haven't been able to get a hold of the VIN number rules for them yet. Owners can tell by the cover of their owner manual.

this might be off topic, and stupid but does anyone know if the 06.5 weighs more than the 06 because of the air bag system? Not really sure what the diff is on the airbag system.

It probably doesn't weight any more. The new system has sensors in the seat to detect a lighter passenger and adjust the energy to the airbag.

I would have prefered no side curtain airbags or any side airbags to save on weight, i would keep the front though.
