Don't redline your Z, take it to the dealership and get a Fit
If this guy ^ can hit 500 ft/lbs an run 11 flat on a stock block, I'm pretty sure you can hit the limiter. I run to red everytime I drive.

No, taking the car to redline will not hurt it. hitting the rev limiter does cause the car to jerk because the power drops off.

Blipping the gas on downshifting is fine.

I feel ya bro, redlining is bad for your car and only ricers do it. I hear optimal shifting RPM is suppose to be set @ 2k to keep engine/oil temps down, 4.9k is risking it already! Better safe than sorry and not to mention you'll have better gas mileage than anyone else on this forum! =D

But if you had an oil cooler, then it would be a different story.

If you don't take it to redline, you'll never enjoy the car. This is coming from someone with a automatic! Don't let my tiptronic whoop you.

The rev-limiter will keep you from blowing your engine when up shifting, but if you hit it, you will lose power and your objective of optimum acceleration will have been lost. The trick is to shift just before so that when the RPMs drop during the shift, they will be near max power when you engage the next gear. IMO.

You can still damage your car by going past red line if done so in a down shift(Like in downshifting to 4th and hitting 2nd instead). In this case it is the wheels, not the throttle that is causing the high revs. The rev-limiter doesn't brake the wheels(thank God). If that happened you could lose more than just the engine.

I own a "revup" 06 Z. If I didn't redline my engine it'd be like I owned an older Z minus like 30lb ft of torque. That would be dumb.

Seriously though, what the hell is the point of a Z if you're not going to drive it hard? You said yourself the miata ran until well over 100K miles. The Z will do the same.

The car is made to be driven to redline. Don't worry about it.
