Default Dealership Enlightment

So, I was with my wife going towards a bike rally event and I saw this small dealership with a used Z in their lot. I already ordered a San Marino Blue 07 Z but I have to wait until October to get it I figured I would go and check it out just out of curiosity to see what they want for it. So I go to the car and I can barely see the interior because it has a very dark tint on the windows (the car is locked). As I am checking the car out the salesman comes by and asks me if I am interested in it. I ask him what is the year and price of the car. He doesn't know either of these but he says he can find out. He goes and checks on this then tells me that the car is an 06 and that he has to wait on the floor manager for a price ( I can already see the ripoff price coming). I ask him what is the trim of the car and one of the most unexpected answers I have ever received in my life was "Well, that depends on your credit" I looked at him silently for about 10 seconds before I snapped I was making him uncomfortable and then proceeded to explain to him what a trim was. He gave me the keys, I opened it up and saw no TCS button so I figured it was a base model. He got back to me with a price and it was $24,500 with 12k miles on it. He tells me that it usually goes for $29,000. I replied to him that I can get an 07 base brand new off the lot for about $28,500 with no haggling at MSRP and probably lower if I was aiming for invoice price. He nods, and walks away. I know there are many dealership stories here but I figured this answer was just too funny.

This encounter is a great example of why a buyer needs to do his research first. Good job!

You didnt know that the better your credit, the better the trim of the car? If your Tier 1, with 750 and above credit rating, your eligble for the Grand Extra Super Duper Touring with 8MT, 16 Piston Brembos, and Hubble Telescope-Powered Navigation System for about 34K

Well, at first I was shocked (hence the 10 second stare), but once I realized who I was talking to I just tried to educate him on his mistake. I guess it was wrong for me to assume that a salesman at a dealership would know what a trim meant

what a terrible salesman. haha

i was at a dealership once and they were selling a 03' with 69k on it, pretty sure it was base...take a wild guess what the price was...23,999....i asked for a test drive just for ****s and giggles, and he told me no unless i was seriously interested in the car becuase they wanted to keep the miles off of it.

dealership prices are redicules almost as redicules as the salesman selling the cars that they know nothing about.

thats exactly why i buy private with a warranty still active.

congratz on the 07' man...to bad its in oct. though!

Haha OP, just think if you flashed a Platinum card the price would have gone up to 40k.

One of my friends went into a dealership and asked to take a 350 for a test drive, now this is where it gets funny, was refused the test drive, haha, then pipes up, oh that's sad I already own a newer model 350, and was going to have a 2nd. Silly dealer aye.
