2 points for those who own an AT: do I occasionally miss the manual? Sure, but I'm thankful for the AT more often. Last, don't give up on working the manual feature on the AT, as it takes a surprising amount of practice to learn it, and if you get frustrated after the first month owning the car and just slap in down in "D" all the time, you're missing out on a lot.
I'm hoping for a DSG/SMG and paddle shifters in my next vehicle. Maybe the true manual is the most "pure" experience in driving, but even the Indy and F1guys have the car do the shifting for them. Bottom line: I've learned to live with the shame.
a couple people would talk behind my back when i got the car
saying ohh its an automatic tho
till one of my friends was around and heard them say it and said, yea right
so some hott *** chick is gonna walk up an be like do me....oh wait nevermind your cars and auto talk to you later
then they just kinda shut up
there just hating because they cant have a Z, when in reality they would take an auto Z if they had the chance

Hahah I have to admit, every time I see an AT sports car i think "awwww...."
But the thing is, i'm imagining how i'd want the car if I owned it. See, I'm young and super enthusiastic when it comes to cars, so of course I'd want a manual on anything i owneed. I need to take a step back and realize that everyone is different (and that it's NOT actually my car). People have different life situations and for some people, an AT 350Z makes perfect sense, even if I can't fathom the thought of owning one myself.
You should buy what you want and not let anyone get you down with their sht talking.

I have a manual ... and I have lower back problems. A week ago, I was having particular trouble because one of my ribs dislocated (it happens to me
) and I had intense pain (y'know ... any time you stand up, you get the wind knocked outta ya). I was worried because everyone talks about how you shouldn't drive a stick if you have a bad back. Well ... I hopped in and INSTANTLY my back felt better due to the awesomely supportive seats in this thing. I then proceeded to drive 200 miles through the mountains and then back home. The more I shifted, the better my back felt. It soothed me
. So, as far as I'm concerned, stickshifts are better for *my* back.
And then I banged my left knee on a very hard object. I hit it so hard that I thought I may have broken it. Minutes later I jumped in my stick-shift Z and the movement I had to make to engage the clutch soothed my poor knee and now it no longer hurts. Yet another win for manuals!
I suppose I'm either the obscene exception ... or maybe people haven't actually tried to drive with something hurting them? *shrug*.

yup i know what it means pisses me off and most of the people who are like wow your an idiot for not geting stick dont even know how to drive stick funny thing is i know how to drive stick but own a Automatic reason why is i live in pasadena which if you guys dont know is located in the LA county we are know for are traffic so i didnt want to deal with that.
the manual vs AT comments will never end. let ppl talk all they want. i <3 my car the way it is. i worked hard to get it and still working hard to pay for it each month. if they are not paying for your car, what they say means nothing.

90% of the time I use the triptronic anyway...not a big difference from a standard MT, minus the left foot.

Seat comfort is at least as subjective as the "attractiveness" of a car's exterior. For me, the Z's seats are some of the most uncomfortable seats of any car I've ever owned, save for the '02 Civic Si and '02 S2000 I had, both manuals. For me the seats are just too narrow, as were the G's, and the side bolsters don't support me but pinch me. To me, they seemed designed for narrow JDM behinds. And no, I'm not morbily obese, but I could sure stand to lose 20-30 lbs., like the majority of Americans.
OTOH, I love the firm, supportive but wider feel of most of BMW's seats, even though I have liked only a very few Bimmers over the years, while my wife can't stand them and thinks they're too hard.

What's wrong with Hondas? I have a '97 Prelude that has been going on strong for the past 10 years and it's the most reliable car I've ever owned.
