Default The Z in Japan

After 2 weeks in Japan i think ive seen ten thousand silvias and skylines and every single one of them is pimped out. ... very few Z's though...

i also met some american dude on the train with his wife who was on leave for the weekend at okinowa military base.... he says if i like tuners they ve got it all over there... he told me that he's buying a 94 supra S/Tand shipping it FREE to the US because his wife is air force and can use thier transport planes.....WHAT A **** ...i told him to buy the Z!!!

i cant wait to get home!

I am sure there have been trillions of military people that wanted to ship a Skyline over here, but oddly, you don't see many do you? Which means: can't happen. The Supra is more realistic since we have it here already, but even so, why do you not see more RHD Japanese imports if just anyone can ship a car back over?

The Nissan Skyline does not meet the U.S safety regulations, they would have to get the car to meet inspection before it would ever leave the lot where it arrived in. Windsheild and a few other things need to be removed
and replaced, its a bit pricy.

^^thats what I am saying haha all my friends in the military say Skylines are a dime a dozen in Japan, and some have even owned them while stationed there, but not one has ever brought one back. Its not possible for many reasons, a few of them you mentioned, Master.

its plenty possible. There are quite a few JDM cars in the us.
Its all about money. If they were not legalized they told the Customs it was going to be a show or offroad vehicle and they would not need to do alot of these things.
Or if it comes over with no motor, and you put the motor in later, customs cannot give you crap for that.

LOL it's entirely possible. I'm former Air Force and I brought back a 1987 Porsche 928 from Europe (bought it in Germany for CHEAP).

I had it shipped back to the states and had all of the necessary safety and emission changes done as soon as it went through customs.

As for the skylines, there is a silver JDM driven by some teenager always on the road around my neighborhood. I think his family owns an auto import business of some sort.

It's so weird to see him driving on the right side of the car. Bet that makes going thru McDonald's drive-thru a little difficult. haha

Its possible if the car was a r33. The r32 and r34 are not federalized, and after the fall through of motorex its more of a pain. The r32 and r34 I believe (may be the r33 and r34) only got in and a few were legalized by shady dealings.

Also the supra would be a pain to register to simply do to the fact that RHD supras were not tested and therefore do not fall under the same guidelines. Im not saying its impossible, but its not an easy process unless you live in a lax state (ie south carolina *cough*) or know someone at the DMV.

there are plenty of R32's and R34's around.

Also the Supra will be much easier. The crash data "should" be very similar since the car was released in the US.
JDm cars are all over the place. My friend has a Soarer and fully legal with no probs at all.

This is not 10 yrs ago. Money makes a world of difference, if not, buy a car that a similar is already in the US. How can DOT refuse a Supra if the steering is on the other side? Big deal on emissions. There are ways around everything. Find a loophole and it will be legal.

Very easily. I wasnt refering to emissions as I live in SC. There are no emission laws. Its the crash data that matters. And if someone at the DOT is in a pissy mood that day, trust me, it would get refused.

Edit: Yah and money makes a huge difference. If you can lay a little on top of the deal you can get just about anything registered.

But keep in mind: Just because its registered in a state does not make it federally legal.

Has a little black kid asked you to buy jordan's yet???

If not, when he does, ask him to show you his car. Then take it from there.

Who cares if its federally legal? If you register it in your state, thats legal enuff for me.
This Soarer has successfully been registered in 2 diff states that I know of to date.
I talked to DOT a few times on this because I was going to get a TTR MK111 Supra. Didnt seem all that difficult because the same body car was already in the states. Not saying it wouldnt be a little work, but deff not very hard or impossible.
Ive seen plenty of non US cars in the states.
S15 Silvias, Skylines of all kinds and flavors, Supras, Hondas, you name it.

BS. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to smuggle a vehicle onto a military aircraft?

True.
Also to the OP the reason why you dont see a lot of Zs on streets is because it's still a fairly new car and still is expensive. I mean, if I had a choice I would get a used S15 for cheaper then a used Z. FI cars run the streets here anyway; 180s, 240s, 13, 14 etc. I would get something that we dont have in states if you are looking for a sports car. For me, I had to settle down with a big family sedan because there is no room on Okinawa for going fast on streets anyway. Can't wait to get back to states

I think i saw 2 z's while living in okinawa, skylines, 180's , sylvia's etc etc everywhere. Shipping is free if you have it taken care of properly and you dont have a car being stored in the states. A coworker of mine has a RHD FD he brought back, and another firnd brought back his 33 GTR. Some cars even though we have a US equal still willnot pass and are not allowed. Just got to the DOT site for the list of approved cars.
