Got a letter from the EPA...
I got the same letter about 4 months ago. I gave them my car and I guess they are still running tests, because I haven't gotten it back yet.
There was some kind of error at the police office. They said the Geo Metro "rental" I had was stolen from some Jamaican guy in Long Island. I don't know what that's about.
Nevertheless, I'm very happy that I'm able to help the environment.

You've got to be kidding me with these responses... before talking out of your ***, do a quick search and you will find (and yes, they do emissions testing):
http://www.epa.gov/greeningepa/facilities/annarbor.htm
It really wasn't a question of the legitimacy of the letter -- it was more a question of why the Z? Are they targeting imports? I was thinking if they can prove that after 'X' thousand miles the Z does not meet federal standards, they might be able to make it difficult to import Z's...???
Anyway, here's the letter too.

Why would any of us do a search on something that you could have shown in your original post. You don't think it sounds fishy that someone wants to borrow your Z and give you a rental in return?
You even made it sound that you were dubious.
Now that it appears legit, would you let them take your gf for a week if they promised they were only going to test her and it was for the good of the environment? I know a lot of environmental wackos.
Weird thing was, my VIN# was hand-written on the form

F that. Its definitely not mandatory, why even consider it. Make a $100 in a week? I doubt you need that...and at the expense of letting someone else drive it?? Wouldn't surprise me if they did a bit more than emissions testing...

I would have expected a form with my VIN pre-printed on it. I was just a little surprised that someone took the time to hand-write the VIN. Made it seem like they were hand-picking vehicles.
