The DVD's are something you can update, I think they cost 199 and come out once a year, but you dont HAVE to update it. I expect I will update mine every 3 years or so.
At some point I expect the wifee will drive it without me. She can't tell left from right and the pricture could help her. (Going to pick her up for our first date, I was in another town before I realized that the direction she gave me could not possibly be right!)
So, for some people the Nav will hold real value!

I'd rather spend the $2K for something I'm going to use every day like a stereo.
$2K is a lot of money, I'm selling my old ford escort for only $800, it has tires on it that cost me like $400 just a year ago. To be honest I would pay $800 dollars just so I don't have to look at that POS.
My point is for $2K I could pick up an old miata just for fun.
I'd rather not have a nav for resale value because it will depreciate like the rest of the car so that after 4 years that $2K will be only worth $1K. Why not keep that $2K in the bank in 4 years it will be worth like $2.2K.

I was told by my dealer that his first cars would be the ones without the Navi systems.
I have a Navi system in my Acura and use it more on short trips around town than on long road trips. It offers a convenient way to find the nearest ATM, Mexican restaurant or directions to that store across town than it is for directing you to a spot 300 miles away.
Is it worth $2000? To me it is. I love gadgets and hate being lost. The stereotype about a man refusing to ask directions is true in my case. I have a series of back roads in the Bay area I remember from my Porsche (356C) driving days that I am going to find using the Navi system and then smoke with the Z. I want to see how much 37 years of technology can improve driving times.

Top gun is BS that way. Feel free to correct me.
If you like navi, get navi. No big deal. As far as resale value goes however you won't get anyting at all back out of it. Historically that has always been the case. It will add virtually nothing to the resale value of the car so you had better really make sure the $2K is worth it because that is the real cost and unlike an aftermarket system it can't be removed.
Yes, you have finally found me! I've kept it all a secret thus far but I am indeed a female. What do you all think of the handsome hunk I am standing next to? I am one lucky girl!
With $2000, I could get some wheels from the dealer (25% discount with GroupZ membership), LCD screen, and a DVD player to go with it. There are so many car audio shops here in L.A. that offer DVD player/LCD screen packages starting at $500. In my opinion, a TV w/ DVD player seems much cooler than a navi system.
I have big plans for the picture of the good Dr.....BRAAAAAHAAAAHAAAAAAAA
I love electronics but no matter how much I tried to sell myself on getting the loaded touring with nav I couldnt see spending the extra money on leather an nav plus the extra taxes. Its a really cool option but with the 2000+ I saved maybe ill get the Valentine 1 or some aftermarket wheels and tires. And mapquest is a nice alternative to nav.
p.s. I cant wait for pat's creation
