Default is the z rice?

obviously not a politically correct question, but i was talking to a co-worker about mods and i said "i want to improve it without making it look ricey", and their response was "its a z, its already ricey". i flipped out, is that the impression most people have of our cars??!! i've always considered the z a pure sports car and definately not ricey like an Evo or RSX, but a class above. maybe i'm being a little elitist. do you guys consider your car ricey? i've definately seen some overdone z's but for the most part they just look good.

any thoughts?

How could it be rice? The Z was made out of aluminum, fiberglass, plastic, various chemicals, and glass. Last time I checked, those materials cannot be eaten with kung pao chicken, panang, curry, bulgogi, etc.

Sorry, let me clarify.

The Z itself is not ricey....it's the people who buy them.

I think ricey applies more to someones choice of mods, not the car stock by itself. And an Evo is definitely not ricey.

Well in a way I can kind of see what he's saying. While the car isn't what I'd call rice (and I try not to use that term as any car can be tacky), it is a nice looking car and subsequently attracts a lot of people who are more into looks that anything else. These people are also the ones who tend to pick the "flashier" modifications.

WHen i hear rice, i dont think of a degree of cars but more of cheap cars that look fast. Such as hatchback hondas that r screaming loud and slow as shiz. Just my 2 cents. As far as a stock or even modded Z being rice i disagree!

I think that some people consider anything non domestic, especially JDM, to be rice.

I remember getting onto a plane a while back with my motor trend magazine with a couple of imports on the cover, I happened to sit next to some NASCAR team member or something and he took one look at my magazine and said, "oh, are into those rice rockets?" I was rather offended and did not really dignify his question with that much of response.

I definitely dont consider it ricey. Albeit, it's not as fast as an EVO or STI stock but if thats ALL that mattered to me I would have bought one of them. The looks and the style of the car, IMHO, prevent it from being "ricey". However, as mentioned before it's up to the owner, using tasteful mods to PREVENT it from being ricey.

^ that makes sense, its usually the cheaper hondas that have the cheaper parts. Like a hatch with a built K series is not rice, but a hatch with stock D series and weld-on muffler is.

To get technical, all Asian cars are "rice burners", which "ricey" is derived from. I think it is a term particularly aimed at the practice of modifying ones car to make it appear or sound faster than it really is, usually in a distasteful, gaudy sense.

Basically, that makes all Asian cars "rice burners", but not "ricey" until it is distastefully modified by the owner... so the owners imbue their foul taste on an otherwise normal car, and make it "ricey". Therefore, a non-Rice burner can be "ricey".

A good response to your friends would have been "yes, my car is made in japan, so it is a rice burner, but the car is not ricey. Get it right, dick nose."
