burning smell???
sorry for another newB Q, but i just hit over 500miles in my car i know your supposed to wait 1000miles usually for break in, but i wanted to see how the car felt under hard accleration, brought it up to about 6-6.5k,and not sure if its the clutch or what? but i notice something that smells like rubber inside the car and outside.....tried it couple more times (different days) incase it was jsut a one time thing...still getting a burning smell

I used to get the "smell" from my new '07...
only under hard accleration....I don't smell it now at 5K miles...
I believe there is some "residue" on the pipes...or "something" with a "coating" that burn when the engine is running hard...it obviously only takes a moment of pushing it....to get the smell....that's what makes me think it's a "residue" on the exhaust somewhere.....
The smell is now gone for me....
I believe that i'll be gone for you also after a few good "runs"....
You'd know if your clutch was slipping and heating up to where you smell it...
it's a very distinct odor....

I wouldn't worry about it yet. There could be so many reasons for this on a brand new car. Some paint or undercoating burning off the cat or muffler for example. I've had a few cars do this when they were new, including the Z. Just keep an eye (or nose) on it. It might seem worse because you're expecting it now. Give it a little time. If you have a real problem, you'll know soon enough.

try not to run your z to rough until it reaches about the 1,300 mile mark. that smell is the residue. before and vehicle is sole it goes through so many inspections and cleaning. plus you also have to remember, that your parts are barely being broken into, plus you have new fluids. such as diff. fluid, tranny fluid, etc. so dont worry bout it. it aint nothing big. but if you keep reving her too high like that, your gonna end up with a lot of problems around 50k miles. so go easy on her for now.
