this entire thing is INSANE. Stated previously on a couple threads, that improper deployment of the air bag could KILL someone!! This has to be fixed!!!

I've requested 4 separate times to get a copy of my extended warranty agreement. Each time they say it will be sent out within 30 days...it's been 18 months and nothing. The last time I asked to speak with a supervisor, and they said there were none available and one would call me within 48 hours. I got a call from one at 8am 3 weeks later.

I've contacted NNA and they took my info and everything they asked me everything from the brightness of the day to what time. They said someone higher up will contact me asap.....no call yet. I can't wait for them to call and let them have a piece of my mind.

Good thing you weren't injured from the airbags going off. I wouldn't settle for anything less than 100k extended coverage as others have mentioned after an event like this. You could have other electrical gremlins that may not rear their ugly heads until later on.

One of my friends has a non modded, stock standard 2003. In the last few months he was having a problem with the airbag light staying on, he took it into a Nissan dealer, and the Nissan dealer said it was a known problem and it was replaced under warranty even though he's passed his 3 year warranty. The dealer also said it's a known problem.

Would be very interesting to see if this is still an old problem that has not been resolved since earlier models.

That made me think of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber when he was driving the limo and the airbag went off in front of the airport!

They said that a rock went under the undercarriage and hit the airbag module. They said it wasn't my fault but it wasn't covered in the warrenty. I also had to pay $250 for the rental, which was un-neccessary to take a week to have someone look under and look what caused the problem.

That's awful and sounds like a design flaw. I'd be really mad and complain to NNA

At minimum, you'd better file a complaint w/NHTSA at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/. If there are enough cases of this, it might trigger a recall. Cars have been recalled for a lot less serious problems than this.

On the plus side , my Z has no side airbags.

It deployed both from the head liner and from the seat. I fixed the head liner cut the airbag off and stuffed it under the head liner. looks perfect, did same with the seat, taking it to local uphostery place that will patch the seat up for $80. But I will have no side curtain airbags for passenger anymore. :/ and the SRS light on odometer will stay on. I work at a body shop and got an estimate for $4500 if i went through insurance.

#@%^&uck that. You have a 3 day old car, your airbags go off for no #$%^&*ing reason, and you are not getting it fixed for free. Do you buy the s#!t about a rock hitting something under the car? CALL A LAWYER. You paid damn near $40,000 for that car.

yeah my passanger side seat airbag and side curtain air bag deployed to. I was doing more than just driving though i slide across some grass i did not hit anything but the airbag still deployed just by sliding and nissan told me that it can come out just from centrifigal force or some bs like that. I had a thread about this same thing but people called bs on me im glad you seem to be doing better then i was.

If you didn't hit anything, I'd also submit a complaint to NHTSA.

sounds awfully strange. seems to me ya got walked all over like a door mat. where are pics of the "sensor" that got hit? I have never known a impact sensor to be out in the open for reasons just like this. besides....airbag won't go off just because an impact sensor is crushed. the module has to react to stopping speed as well. that is why with some deer hits that crunch the front of a car no air bag goes off. its just not the sensor that makes the decision. had you slammed on your brakes WHILE the rock hit then MAYBE and that is a huge MAYBE. the travel of the car has to slow at a great rate in order for all this to function together.

the car should absolutely be taken care of right away and you should be treated like a facking king. thats how it would work at my dealership even if you only bought a used 3-series. (bmw dealer)
as for you getting a new car, not unless this is some problem extending into a few different visits.
