And how much was your down payment? I know a lot of people use previous used cars as a down payment but sometimes it's not worth putting a lot down.

I've gotten that from two parents that were leaving a store on two seperate occasions, the first was a Dad who said to me "Must be nice to have your Daddy buy you a car?" I looked right at him, and said, "It's shoebies like you who need to shut up, I'm paying for this myself and it was all my credit that I've built up, maybe if you didn't knock your wife up you could have one to." He just sorta stood there in silence with his kids crawling in his mini van, and I walked into the store. But ya I've been gettin the whole expensive car thing a lot.

Another reason for the "expensive" tag is that it goes attached to the unpractical. To spend money on a car with only two seats and a speed you can't drive (legally) most of the time you must have some to spare. The truth is our cars are not very practical, and thus they do belong in the realm of "toys". With much less money you could buy something with more space, or more economical, or more "green"... So it can be defined as an expensive toy.

The proof of this is the G35. Basically the same identical car (in what matters, except beauty), yet made practical by having a rear seat. So nobody thinks a G35 at $30K is an expensive toy. See? Perception.

In comparison, a Mercedes would still haul more people, so it is not a toy, but a luxury. It is still practical, in an expensive way. Vs expensive and NOT practical.

While I love my Z, I have always felt is overpriced. We have a Nissan (cheaper brand) with a V6 engine, might as well be an Altima, no? I paid for it because I found it beautiful, and had to have it. But I won't argue that it isn't a toy.

The Z is in no way even close to being compared to an Altima. I hope you are kidding.

As far as a cheaper brand ? I would much rather have the Z with its price than a Chevy or a Ford with there price tags of the Vettes and Mustangs. I trust the reliability of Nissan WAY before Ford or Chevy

And when you are talking practical you have to keep in mind that its all relative. I have Lexus ES300 for the times I need to carry people around. Although for sheer fun factor I say that car is NOT PRACTICAL while the Z IS>

I've been at my job for just over a year and everyone gives me the "new guy must be getting paid a lot" look. Oh well, I just tell the ones that are really interested that I got it for 22k. I have a 2003 Touring.

Yep, you should always put as much as possible when there is interest involved, unless your bank is giveing a better rate keeping your money than the rate you are paying on the car. COMMON SENSE
