Cross Country Roadtrip

Cross Country Roadtrip
Soon I'll be driving from Ithaca, NY to Portland, OR, and I hope to make the trip in about a week. I have an enthusiast Z with ~800 miles on it. So far I've done the following to make the trip successful:
* I picked up a Valentine1 radar detector. Does anybody know which states rely heavily on laser?
* I'm also having a clear bra installed before the trip. I have a redline Z, and after reading some threads about heavy paint chipping on the bumper & hood, I'm worried about the same thing happening to me.
Suggestions for the trip are greatly appreciated! Is there any particular thing I should do to prepare the car for the trip? It'll be hard enough to keep myself from stopping every hundred miles to wash the car! I hope to travel ~300 miles the first day (to close out the breakin period), and then average ~500 there after. My tenative route is to go through the northern states (Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, etc.).
I'm bringing a camera along, so when I get back I'll put up a photo journal that documents the trip.
Thanks!

might want to get some support for the seat, long trips I find back support a little lacking.make note of the states that detectors are illegal in, virginia is one, donno what others, if there are any others.

If you do want a back support, here is a good one:

I have had one for 4 months & it works well and the black color blends with the seat.....assuming black seats.
As for tips, mine would be related to route/& things to see.
I'd suggest taking I 90 out of Wisconsin through South Dakota & Wyoming and stop off at Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone if you can work in a couple extra days. By the time you get that far, your probably going to want/need a break anyway.
There is a great back road out of Sheridan Wy thru Cody into Yellowstone that would be fun driving & has GREAT scenary. (But it is long). In Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and the thermal/geyser fields are the highlights imo.
If your interested in the above, lmk & I'll post or PM more info.
Sounds like a great trip; I'm envious.
I would give myself an extra couple days if you can make it work. A week is abit short and its not an oppertunity your likely to have again anytime soon.
