How to Guarantee the Z is a track edition?
Well its got the forged wheels, brembo's, alum pedals, vdc, rear spoiler, 17inch spare, no leather, no bose, tire pressure sensor

not 100% sure on that. Wasnt the track supposed to be the stripped down, no luxuries model? Performance model seems like it would be a mix of track and touring.
To the op, sounds like a track to me.
ALOT of misinformed ppl here.
Here are the FACTS.
*Leather NOT a factory option (could get it done from the dealership, but not from the factory)
*Navi IS an option, but you get the BASE sound system.
*BOSE NOT an option
*Side Air bags ARE an option

It's like the C5's for me, anybody can through brake vents and Z wheels on an FRC and claim its a Z06, but until you pop the hood its hard to tell (for most).
Whats the solid thing I should look for to make sure its an actual track model?
Thanks!

I'd say if it has the wheels, brakes, and VDC/TCS then you are safe. Why would someone go to such great lenghts to trick someone when you really can't tell unless you are a pro. Only thing a person would change would be the brakes and wheels.
It's call pride and keeping a car clean. Do you see Ferrari's, Lambo's, Porsche's dirty as $hit out there?

Things don't have to be shiny to be clean.

The only 100% certified true way to tell is to have a Nissan dealer look up the car in their system. It came from the factory with a designation (base, touring, track, etc.) and no matter what options were added, or changes made after delivery, will change that factory designation.
Honestly, I'm very doubtful. When I purchased my Z in '03 I tried everthing and anything to get factory leather. Three dealerships told me it could not get done. I wanted a track model and the only option I wanted was leather & Navi. (This was of course because I was planning on keeping the car stock). LOL. My Z was actually flatbedded from Michigan because they could not find a track with navi in IL. I've never heard of anyone "special ordering" a Z directly from Japan. I bet this guy got his leather outsourced somewhere.
edit: with that said, I probably just get screwed by the dealerships who didn't want to order. heh
