How to Guarantee the Z is a track edition?
Hey everybody, I'm looking at an 03 Track edition tomorrow and I'm just wondering what makes it a definite the car is a track edition. I know the wheels and brakes are a big thing, but is there something in the VIN or anything that makes it not so easy to fake?
It's like the C5's for me, anybody can through brake vents and Z wheels on an FRC and claim its a Z06, but until you pop the hood its hard to tell (for most).
Whats the solid thing I should look for to make sure its an actual track model?
Thanks!

track wheels, brembo brakes, has TCS and VDS, is 6 speed, does not have leather-- about all I can think of its been awhile since I've seen a track
The vin has nothing to state what it is, only a call to nissan can determine that.
Under the engine there is no difference.
Faking a track, wouldnt be worth the effort or money involved, it has little to no value over a enthusiast model

Any model can have the brembos retrofitted. But to do that, you'd have to cut the rear brake dust shield off. So if you remove a rear wheel and the shield looks like it's been cutoff, then that wasn't a track model. Also track model comes with its own unique spare tire. But I've never made a comparison in person so I wouldn't know how to tell the difference off hand.

Another visual to check out: the track model should have a small black splitter under the front bumper and plastic diffusers just ahead of the rear tires as part of the aero package. Together with the Brembos, Rays and everything else mentioned here, you can be reasonably sure that it's a genuine track model!

redkaz04, didn't the performance come with TPS and VDC in 03? Then add brembos, aero parts, and wheels? Cutting the back dust shields seems like a give away. I mean you could change those too, but what a pain. You don't need to take the wheels off though, just bend down behind the car and look at the back side of the rear rotors.
As for the spare, the track came with a 17" spare while non-Brembo cars came with a 16" spare.
