How to Guarantee the Z is a track edition?
^^ If the car has VDC, it also has TCS (TCS is part of VDC)
The switch on the left side of the dash near your knee is labeled VDC (for
cars equipped with VDC, which includes TCS) or TCS if it is only equipped with TCS.

Easy way is to take the VIN and ask a dealer. I wondered the same when i bought my track model. Like everyone says.. key things are Rays wheels, brembos, NO BOSE, NO leather, NO seat heaters, VDC button on left side, TPS sensor, Aerodynamics package front splitter, rear underspoilers etc.
Its either vdc or tcs, not both.
Look down and to the left of the steering wheel youll see two black buttons side by side and below them is the fuel door release. The left of the two black buttons should say TCS or VDC depending on the model.
Track has at a minimum:
brembos
rays 18's 6 spoke wheels
aero package
no leather
no bose
larger spare
no heated seats
6mt
lsd
also, verify the steering wheel controls, hid's and power seats. I dont know what the track has for those options.

Track has HIDs.
Track does NOT have weight-adding power seats.

i have a 2004 track model, and it has brembo.
brembo
forged rays wheels
little tighter suspension
lighter than other models

Same Part Number on everything. The initial journalist comments on that is an illusion. Part placebo, part from lighter and wider wheel setup.
Well I picked up an 03 track edition today. When called to get the loan approved, the VIN showed it saying touring, what the hell???
Everything on the car checks out to prove its a track model. Does this happen much, or should they be explaining something.....?

god dangit! OP, why dont you tell us what is on the car????????? Itd help alot.
Tourings have leather and heated seats and a BOSE system. The seats are also power adjustable. They have VDC but so does the Track model. Tourings can also have nav and brembos. The 6mt versions came with 6 spoke 18's while the autos had the 7 spoke 17's iirc.
Help us help you, is it that hard?

Here was my Z in stock glory back in '03, except for the seats:
