I wish the z only came in manual like the s2000
In addition to the above:
BMW's SMG transmission does 80 millisecond shifts. Tests show that dual-clutch sequential transmissions (like Audi's DSG and Porsche's upcoming PDK) can upshift as fast as *8* milliseconds. That's 0.008 seconds.

ALL MULTI-GEAR TRANSMISSIONS HAVE AT LEAST ONE CLUTCH. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S AN AUTOMATIC OR A MANUAL TRANSMISSION OR IF IT EVEN IS A CAR.
The manual transmission has a manual clutch and the automatic transmission has an automatic clutch, hence the name. Are you sure you know the difference?

The bottom line is that if you got a Z in MT thats great, and if you got a AT Z thats great too....its all about personal choice and what fits your needs....whether its a auto or MT its still 350z....get over it...

As far as saying that the AT is bad just because you beat your friend with a few bolt on mods means nothing other than your friend is a worse driver than you.
When rev matching a MT you still have to leave the clutch open and blip the throttle. On the AT, it's no different, the clutch still has to be open for the tranny to blip the throttle so I don't understand what you're point is.
You either can't drive or you are lying out of your *** if it takes you 3 seconds to shift the 5AT. So which is it, "can't drive" or "lying"? I've driven both the 6MT and the 5AT and when properly driven the 5AT shifts faster.
But before you answer the above question and make a fool of yourself, here are some stats that might help you answer the question and why I'm calling BS on your story.
1) A human eyeblink is approximately 300ms. You can prove it by trying to blink as many times as you can in one second. You'll get 3 maybe 4 blinks in if you are really fast. I highly doubt you can shift faster than an eyeblink.
2) A professional NASCAR driver, some of the best manual shifters around, can do a single shift in about 0.7-0.8 second. That is the time it takes them from when they start stepping on the clutch to the time they finish by releasing the clutch, which is pretty damn fast for a human. If you can shift faster than the average NASCAR driver, why the hell are you on this forum instead of being out on the track kicking butt? After all, you can shift 5x faster than they can. Let me be your agent and we can make some serious money.

There is nothing wrong with the MT. I like the MT in the Z and would have gotten that if after trying the AT I didn't like it. The MT is a fine transmission and the people that chose to drive the MT are fine people. Hopefully, most people chose the MT or AT because they wanted to and not because they had to. But, whatever their reason or circumstance was, they chose a great car.
What irks me are the Fanboys who think that MT is the end all of car enthusiasm and back it up with myth, missconception and outright lying and try to enforce it with personal attacks and put downs.
I have no problem with people expressing their opinions, facts or true stories about each of the transmissions because it enhances the forum. But, the Fanboys don't do that. Here are some examples.
Opinion: "I like my MT because it's fun"
Story: "My buddy and I were at Infineon and his AT lost by a full car length."
Fact: "The 5AT is a learning transmission."
Fanboy: "I can shift faster than any AT because I can shift faster than an eyeblink."
Fanboy: "You're a f*cking pansy because you drive an AT."

I think Nissan thought out these cars very well. I believe though I have not driven all the cars I mention here that 03-05 atx to mtx is even and simply a drivers race. You normally lose more power in an atx but with it shifting faster I am betting it is equal again. Earlier I mentioned years and that is because there is an anomaly with the 06 year. The power band was shifted producing more hp but less torque. That has been argued many times. I started out this statement by saying Nissan put some thought in to every yar Z and the engine/tranny combo, and my belief that they want both cars comparable. Look at the 06 for example. It is evident or to me any way since I drive both an MT 03 and an 06 MT that Nissan did not put atx engines on the rev-ups because the car simply would not have performed well. If you have ever driven an atx car with low tq down low then you know how sluggish they can be. My guess is that the rev-up and atx just did not mesh well. Again that goes to show how well Nissan is trying to deliver a product. The 07 again got rid of the loss of tq that would have hurt the atx while still providing smoothe power to redline. Everyone enjoy whatever Z you have and quit being so judgemental. Whether at or mt look how long they have been able to sell this Z. I can't remeber what year was the first year for the S2000, but I imagine it is difilcult for a carmaker to be this competitive for this long with the same basic car. For the money the car is a performance dream. Look at the fast lap comparisons (can't remember the magazine right now). See that our the times for the 06 was good enough to still win its category without even using its best and latest car for the test in 07. I look forward to the test in 08.

I know they havce some sick autos in lambos and ferra but yeh for that money the auto better be sick lol. But sports cars should only be manual in my book. And sry but i still think the mt trannie with a good drive is a decent amount faster then a auto. And auto is just boring to me in this kinda car.
