How do you define powerband start and cut-off points?

Id say 3500-6500? but remember that its all relative, as the Z makes more power and torque at 2000RPMs than the celica does at peak. somethin to ponder.

That is the point I was alluding to. The determination appears to be somewhat arbitruary, varying from engine to engine.

It's an exercise in futility.

I agree with the above posts.

The only thing I'd add is that in the Z there is no sudden increase in torque, no sudden rush of acceleration.

In first and second gears, 2000 RPM feels very strong. When I autocross, I have yet to need first gear to power out of a sharp corner. I'm basically running the entire couse in second (maybe bouncing off the revlimiter a bit at the longer straights).
