Default How fast have you gone?

Before any of you start preaching, who here has a Z and hasn't broken the speed limit? Anyway, an M3 was playing tag with me on the freeway. He would pull away, but I held my own. I happened to look down at my speedomter (I was afraid to take my eyes off the road) and I was cruising at 140, and the Z still had some giddy up left. I was disappointed, though, that the front end started shaking some what. Maybe I should take it back to the dealer and tell him that the front end is unstable at 140mph? Anyway, it would be interesting to hear if others have similiar stories. I was reading in a Corvette forum some owners had done 180mph.

145 against a late model 911. It hung with me until we hit 6th gear. I think he got scared.

145 was tops for me. I had a bridge all to my self. Clear visibility so I punched it.

I hit 145 and backed off. It was a little scary

134, just me and the Z untill a minivan joined in, it was VERY scary because the road was far from ideal for those speeds. a stupid idea looking back at it.

130 for me. I was impressed with how stable it felt, though I'm not in any hurry to go faster.

157-160 in my Z28. Not exactly shure.
It was on a straight backroad with farm land on eather side. There was no wind out so I figured Id see what my car would do.

I pegged the speedo in 5th gear and decided it was enough. It was still climing, but not fast, and at that point she was getting a tad light on her feet.

Granted that speed was very dangerous, but I was only endangering myself and the corn around me

148 ..when a WRX trying to race with me, when 130 he was getting slowly ...maybe i was a little nervous...felt a little usteady when a straight road became a curve...maybe it's too dark,..can't see too far on front...the stock HID seem like wide and can't see too far on front...it make me feel nervous when drive on high speed at night..I got a 6000k HID set on my last car..a 2001 Accord coupe..it's brighter than my new Z..and further..anyone agree with me too?...(Sorry,.i'm a internation student , so i'm still learning English..)

282Km per hour! I think that works out at about 177MPH, what an absolute buzz!

Oh, it was on an R1 and it was at a race track, Eastern Creek, if anyone knows it ?

It is in Sydney and it is where they use to have the GP racing (until it went back to Phillip Island).

I'm not sure how good the speedo is in a Z, but I know on my R1 the indicated speed is not actual. On an R1 it's about 5% over, so I've been told.

I got to about 145 and I'm pretty sure I was still in 5th, but I was still a pretty inexperienced stick driver (still am) so my memory could be wrong on that point.

Where my memory does not fail me is that I was racing a 911 GT Turbo and I have never been so shamed in my life. We were in light traffic so neither of us got any real length on the other one, but when it opened up I was in front and he stayed on my butt til I hit 140 then he came around me (kind of slowly but still easily) pulled in front of me, waved and then proceeded to pull away from me like I was sittin still...It was one of the sweetest things I have ever seen in my life!!!
And to top it off, he was a "typical Porsche driver." Older guy, at least 55 if not 60s and those guys never seem to want to push their cars, but he got on the freeway came up next to me and downshifted with a really nice loud grumble and looked over at me and smiled so I ask you, what's a boy to do?
FUN!!

PS
At 140+ my car was as stable as it's ever been.

140 on the NJ turnpike around 2am. I think was playing around with a 300zx and a 3000gt. Car felt great at that speed.

I have driven on the autobahn in Germany.

In the 350Z in Canada I have done 253kph which is about 158 mph.

In a German Mercedes on the autobahn I have cleared 300 kph or 180 mph.

All in all the fastest land based travel I have ever been would likely be in one of those jet car things when I was a kid ... no clue how fast I was going but I could not pick up the $50 taped to the dash ... no I was not driving if that is what you call it in a car with a jet engine

Regards,
Kevin

I want a car that accelerates so fast that the passenger can't even get his hand to the dashboard. Is that too much to ask?

I could install a camera like they have on roller coasters now, and offer pictures of my passenger with his head smashed back into the head rest.

haha...that'd be sweet Chaz

As far as my highest speed achieved...was about 138 Mph. I live just outside of the City of Syracuse...and theres a small stretch of highway on 690 where the median of the road splits to 2 lvl's so you don't have to worry about cops, the only problem is that its too damn short of a strip so you have to pretty much gun it in 5th, you can't just slowly climb from 6th...ah well

Only time I had some fun with another car was actually 2 of them, one was a newer Porsche 911 and the other was an Audi A4...we were all goin about 120 then I decided to see if they wanted to push it so I passed them about 130...they didn't go, so I let off and cruised with em. was fun either way tho

152 in my z.. 2am and no one on the road
it was incredibly stable at that speed, but I was a little reluctant to put that to the test so I didnt swerve tooo much

I hit 175 in my friends camero once.. it was a very bumpy road and was pretty scarry actually
