350z traded for a Miata
This friend of mine, SANDZ, traded his 350z for a Miata. Can you believe that! This friend of mine, SANDZ, traded his 350z for a Miata. Can you believe that! This friend of mine, SANDZ, traded his 350z for a Miata. Can you believe that!
I have to agree with all of you except Miatas are all over the race tracks (AutoX, Road racing, time trails, even in Japan there a cult classic car). I WONDER WHY??? Oh I know why, because there a great car and can run circles around most cars on a road coarse with lots of turns. I've jumped into plenty of MX-5's at the track and let me tell you, the G Forces that little Go Cart puts out will bring a smile to anyones face including my Straight ***. It gets even sicker with suspension mods and Kumho or Hoosier racing tires!
I know the miata has a chick car rep, but it is truly a kick *** little car. I had one that I autox for a few years. I put less that $1K in suspension mods. I had a turbo on it so I had to run in a street prepared class and did alright given the radically modded cars I was up against and I was running street tires! They are very quick cars in the turns, and with a turbo, mine did just fine thank you on the highway. It was truly a blast to drive in the mountains, I just wish I fit in it better. At 6'3" it was very tight.

Having come from the Triumph/MG/XKE top down era I was glad to see Mazda offer a similar car but with greater reliability so if the Miata better suits someone then that's certainly OK. The bad part is trading in an almost new Z or any new car after a few months as depreciation is going to be REALLY steep. To trade a 350z for a used Miata might be OK if payment was a problem but if it was a NEW Miata you'll get hit with double new car depreciation which is a bit foolish financially even if you can well afford it.
I see cool cars on used car lots all the time and wonder why these people got rid of that car. No one can say but your right it could be lots of reasons, Payments, to heavy compared to the light weight roadster, etc.... I know when I got out of the Miata and into the Audi S4 there was a HUGE difference in weight. Now I had a powerful, torque monster, all wheel drive PIG! Definetly not as much fun. The Z is no lightweight but gave me the more nimble feel back.
Not shocked at all and 350zwannabe is correct thier are lots of reasons for it. I have sen 5 350Z's on used car lots here in the DFW area and ad 3 of them have been on the lots for weeks.
I'm sick of all the ****ing ******** saying, "Oh, the Miata is a ***** car..."....**** THAT. I had a Miata before my Z, the only reason I've got a Z now is because some stupid ***** ignored a stopsign with her goddamn SUV and I slammed right into her at 50 mph. That car was FUN, with a capital goddamn F, and I don't give a **** what anybody thinks about it, I miss that car dammit. All these insecure mother****ers with huge-*** SUV's can blow me, because I'm not even insecure with my manhood like they obviously are. "I've got a small *****, so I better get a big vehicle to drive!!" Screw that logic. Gimme a small, fun, and fast sports car. Not to mention I got MAD chicks with that car. It's a "chick car" in that respect, cuz women love it. Drop the top and there's plenty of room for sex in a Miata. Even with the top up, you can move over to the passenger side, and let her sit on top facing the windshield, and....well you get the point. Don't dis Miatas, people. They're great cars.
I traded a 2001 Miata for my Z and haven't looked back.Miatas are great on twisties but too underpowered.I still belong to a Miata club and ride with them on occasion and have driven turbo Miatas. They are awesome and I wouldn't try to race them.BTW,80% of club members are male so I don't know where the girlie car reputation came from.
I too had a turbo Miata (MX-5 here) which I sold to buy the Z. While I don't regret it, the Z is slower in every way than the Miata was.
Anyone who thinks the Miata is a chicks car isn't speaking from experience.

Actually, I was toying with the idea of buying a used Miata. Their engines are good for way over 150,000 miles, they're well built, and they're fun cars. That was the first car I ever sat in where everything just felt right. Every part of the cockpit was exactly where I thought it should be. The only other car I've felt that with was the NSX.
The best thing is that they're usually pretty cheap, about $3000 to $5000 for a decent one.
You get a convertible that's fun to drive, what could be better? There was a recent article in Grassroots Motorsports about a Miata only race series.
Of course, I don't have the money, or the parking spot currently.

I hate when people label cars... If you like the damn car, good for you for buying it and enjoy it.
Do you know how many times i've been made fun of for being a 23 year old Marine with a PT Cruiser? It used to bother me...I couldn't give a damn now....

I've got a Z, and a Miata. everyone said trade it, I said Hell NO, it's too much fun and too reliable. Chick car is a bad rap, Miata's when modded are all testoterone. there is a reason you see so many on the race track and generate cult passion. I got my miata in 90 and right away, an un-mazda maita club was born, with semi monthly magazine publication with other owners experiences, mods, and tips. No such fever comes with the Z except for the internet banter, and local enthusiast clubs. The Z is a great car, but it aint no Miata. The Miata is easy, and a blast to modify. the Z is being a complete PIA to get inexpensive bolt on performance increases from. Waiting for that Technosquare ECU.....then maybe things will be different.
The Miata ("Roadster" in Japan) is a great car, great track car, and does not have the same "chick" image here.
BUT.... to trade a 350Z for a Miata.... the guy has to have his head checked out -----> and on top of that ----> the Miata is quickly headed for a complete model change.

Depending on what changes in the Miata (hopefully nothing drastic) I may look at trading the Z in for a new miata in 3 or 4 years. I've always felt the miata would be great with more power (which is why I turboed mine) but a factory Miata with a sweet 2l four or turbo rotary (rotary will never happen IMO), that'd be nice.
