can you guys explain this... I was watching an auto-x video and the instructer told the student driver to use their left foot to brake. Have any of you guys ever used this technique?
You can also use left foot braking if you don't have a line lock to give you a longer burnout at the track to warm up those tires. But, you have to be quick on your feet with a six speed. ;-)

I do it, but I also have practiced it a LOT.
I don't recommend left-foot-braking until you're experienced enough to not be worrying about doing multiple things. Your eyes are automatically looking where you want to go and your hands are following that -- even when the car is sideways. THEN you should be using your left foot on the brake. Before then, you're in danger of overwhelming yourself, and when you do that, you're a danger to yourself and others.
woww.... i brake with the left foot in an automatic and manual.. just more comfy.. i dont see the problem as long as u dont ride the brakes when your going , i think your good
to brake and accelerate at the same time. No lag between pedals?
It allows for a smoother transition between braking and accelerating. You can also use it to change the balance of the car mid corner if you know what you're doing. The turbo guys also use this technique to keep their boost up through the corner if they have cars with horrible turbo lag.
Left foot braking is used in front-wheel-drive because you need to shift weight to the front while accelerating out of a corner. If you don't then you push. I don't think left foot braking is unnecessary in a RWD. When you accelerate, you squat on your power wheels.
Pow-pow-power wheels!
Now that sucks.... I do this all the time in my Firebird. But, of course that's not drive by wire. I guess I'll just have to get a line lock to get those tires nice and sticky at the track.
I guess the new Vette is the same way. If I'm not mistaken those are DBW as well.
Ive always driven this way, but this is mainly because its how i learned to race when i was 5 in karts. I dont see anything wrong with this as long as u have enough sense to not ride the brakes.
